UPDATE: De-escalating this. I've talked to Sunny in detail about what she did with the message. I think it's possible that she accidentally may have forwarded the entire thread to me.
(I've updated the post subject as well to remove "compromised" since that part might have been user-error/mistake. Confirmation of what happened as far as the logs go would be nice, and reassuring.)
Everyone heads up - something fishy going on with the PM system.
Drifter truthandsoul Greg:
Last night for some reason I received a new message indication and when I opened it, it contained the entire thread titled "Sunny Walther". I didn't read past the first couple messages thinking it was intended for me (and I've made Sunny aware of this, and she's fine with that . But this was the entire couple of pages worth of private conversation between Drifter and her when she first joined the board. The PM thread somehow only became addressed to myself and Sunny, but the content was all between Drifter and Sunny. Drifter was no longer on the thread. As soon as I confirmed with Sunny that she didn't send or CC this to me intentionally, I deleted it from my own inbox. Shortly after, she reported multiple PM threads went missing from her inbox as well. I took a partial screenshot of the first message to show sunny. So I do have that as "evidence" of this glitch or whatever.
I'm not making any accusations - I'm just saying this is VERY odd from a technical standpoint.
Perhaps the admins can review the logs and try to figure out what happened. If not, the fine folks at Proboards definitely can do this. I've read in their forums and their website that they are very clear that PM's between users can not be read, even by moderators or the site admin. In the past, unscrupulous site admins (not here?) apparently tried to do things like change users passwords, then log in to those accounts to read the PM's. Users would then get "wrong password" and think they just typed it in wrong, reset it and go about their business without knowing they were compromised. How despicable. The point is, Proboards even went out of their way to code a fix for that loophole (as far as I've read). It's definitely not intended for admins/staff to have access to these messages.
I'd say use the PM system at the risk they are being compromised or there is some serious glitch until the admins can provide some sort of update.
