I would definitely grant you this. Also the murder of any judge -- or individual considered for a judgeship -- would definitely attract the attention of higher-ups (Lyman Smith), so we have agencies looking into murder-for-hire AND the death of a candidate judge. The question is the extent of other agencies' -- the F.B.I. included -- involvement.
Right, it is a question of the extent of the involvement from other agencies. That's probably impossible to show, since they don't normally disclose the extent of their involvement. Neither do the local LE agencies publicly disclose the extent of the involvement of most of their local LEOs or everything they did as an agency in the case. It's probable that other agencies ran their own investigations pertaining to at least certain aspects of various cases (possibly the EAR/ONS case, too) that the local LE agency wasn't privy to.
With EAR having become a suspect in the Maggiore murders, federal agency involvement would be probable and logical in that part of the investigation, too.
Yet, it's enough to at least understand that local law enforcement officers, such as Shelby and Crompton, are not the end of the line in terms of LE involvement in this case. Trying to convince some posters of external agency involvement, though, has been like trying to pull teeth.
