EAR Town Hall Meeting: Was the EAR/ONS/GSK there?

The point of this being -- if there was media coverage of the man's comments, then the rapist did not have to be present at the meeting to know about them. He could have read them in a newspaper, heard them on the radio, seen them on television news. 

Many people here say that EAR had to have been at the meetings because of the subsequent attack. A lot of effort has gone into identifying a suspect from photographs of the meetings. Others say it was probably a coincidence that the man who spoke up was later a victim.  Some have suggested that the EAR could have picked up the information from friends or neighbors, or just general talk in the community.

I don't know for sure if the old newspaper, radio and TV reports are still available. I would think that the newspaper clips are, at least. 

Hundreds of people came to these meetings. They were huge news events for communities of that size. 

I was a newspaper reporter starting in 1979. If I'd been at the meeting where the man spoke up, I would have quoted him in my reporting. 

Some have suggested that the EAR might have been in the crowd, pretending to be a journalist. That is highly unlikely, as the journalism community in the area at the time was surprisingly tight, and reporters would have noticed someone that they did not know wearing press credentials. They would likely have asked him who he was working for.

0% chance it was dumb luck that this guy spoke up then became a victim. 0% chance the EAR was not at this meeting.



100% chance this gentleman was followed after the meeting and was the next target. And it came to fruition a few weeks later.

Anyway,  here's another possibility: the guy who spoke out at the town meeting was an opinionated, outgoing guy and this was not the only place he offered this opinion.  Perhaps JJD heard this guy voicing the opinion somewhere else.  That's still a coincidence that JJD heard him in person, but much less of a coincidence for every time the guy time voiced the opinion.   Maybe JJD overheard him, say, at a bar where the guy was a regular.

Is he a reporter? Or police detective?

Does someone recognize him as a reporter or detective?

Could he possibly be the EAR/ONS, perhaps posing as a reporter? Several things stand out about this man.

He appears to be a single male in a meeting composed almost entirely of couples or lone females.

He is the only person wearing a winter jacket, bulky and heavy. Awe noted this. Could that be to conceal something? It does at quick glance make him look heavier than the EAR descriptions of 160 pounds, but he does appear to really weigh about 160 pounds.

He bears a clear similarity to the Maggiore and VR sketches. The hair, the part, the face structure, the nose.

EAR was always described as clean shaven and thin 160 pounds, so perhaps a beard and bulky jacket gave EAR the confidence to do what is a damn ballsy and creepy move, attending a town hall about him, and then targeting a speaker.

Could 'ski jacket man' and the lady just behind and left with her chin connected to his head possibly be Gerald Armond Gallego and his wife Charlene Gallego?  She looks just like her and he really looks an awful like Gerald.  Years after her release, Charlene dropped a hint in a 2013 interview that she thought Gerald could possibly be linked to an unsolved crime spree in Sacramento that terrorized the city.

I am not done with this topic. I would like to propose the following theory for comment.

These two people appear at an EAR meeting sitting by each other. They just happen to look a lot like the Gallego couple. The dynamic between these individuals fits the Gallego relationship in that she is sitting sort of behind him and she is looking a different direction than most of the crowd. She seems displaced. It would make sense that Gerald G may be fixated on the EAR escapades. In December 1977 he and Charlene had been dating a couple months.
I would like to further put Charlene out there as the possible author of Excitement’s Crave per Gallego’s request. I am not of the opinion JJD wrote that. Charlene is described in her youth as being very articulate, intelligent (IQ 160). She had a church background in her youth, I can’t find evidence so I will propose it was Seventh Day Adventist which I firmly believe the author was knowledgeable in SDA philosophy.
I will further propose that Gerald may be the caller to the hotline posing as EAR, Gerald had been in and out of multiple mental health facilities and reform schools in his youth.
Perhaps he even knew the EAR. Gerald grew up in an extended family, maybe he lived with relatives around Porterville, the name Gallego appears in that area. It would make sense he would be watching what the EAR was doing. Charlene was born in Stockton.

I don't think ski jacket man looks much like Gerald Armond Gallego at all.

Before you assign too much to this photo...I believe ( and someone please correct me if I'm wrong ) that the puffy jacket guy in this Mira Loma photo has been identified ( probably because this was pounded for so long ) and isn't Gallego.

No, this guy came forward at some point in the last fifteen years, I believe, long after Gallego had been sent to prison (and, in fact, after he died).

Yeah, as mentioned, I think this gentleman was ID'd / came forward in the fairly recent past and well after Gallego died...hence my comment about this photo being pounded for so long. I believe this was cleared up due to his sudden prominence in the public's imagination vs. being considered or cleared in the 70s, but that might not be correct. I'm not familiar enough with the situation.
