There is always room for speculation until EAR is captured there is weird things like the horn honking and doorbell incidents. There is an argument that EAR had the support of some type at that particular one anyway. The use of the cement lined ditch is interesting as well.
The closeness of a freeway could mean he used it as an escape route but also in that area as other attack locations there are several main surface streets that could also be used as an escape route, the many different directions of possible travel that EAR could have used is staggering. The freeway is, of course, one way but also the many different routes an offender could take is impossible to decipher until EAR is identified. I do believe the freeway system was used by EAR to locate possible target locations for prowling but I also think he was smart enough not to rely on them exclusively and not have several escape routes and also his hide in the area in a vacant house until daybreak.
I have always wondered why EAR did not make the move or progression into Placer County and Roseville and Rocklin areas. The areas have all the makings of his other hunting grounds and Rocklin is very similar in size and makeup to Davis. There were lots of open fields near homes in both Roseville and Rocklin. The Granite Bay area is very similar to the Del Dayo neighborhood as well, with wealthy homeowners and open landscape surrounding the properties. The Orangevale attacks were not that far from Granite Bay it would just be a short drive down Folsom-Auburn Road or Hazel Ave.
Back to your question about an accomplice, I do not know for sure but if there was a support person they were not along with EAR on every attack, that seems clear to me based on evidence. But it can not be completely dismissed that a second person male or female could have been along for the ride on a few where the strange activities took place. The attacks where the strange occurrences happened have been tied to EAR by MO and not DNA so I am trusting that LE did their job and made sure the MO was a perfect match and it seems to be the case so that still brings the question back to who was the doorbell ringer and who was gunning the car engine? Who did the victim hear on the patio when EAR was known to be inside the house? These are all good questions and I wish I had the answer.
