Here Is my take about this perp:
In referencing the above profile--Is this a full psychological profile from the investigators? It doesn't seem complete. Regardless, I agree with most of it, except the part of engaging with prostitutes and having an emotional age of 26-30 at times of the crimes. He might have had some encounters with a prostitute, but I think his victim selections point toward him preferring sex with "upscale" women. Sleeping with a prostitute would be beneath his sense of himself having a higher status. His emotional age, well...more like a child/early teen. I say this based on reports of him crying at some scenes, as well as reportedly crying for his "mommie." Of course, if these reports are wrong, then this would also be wrong...
It goes without saying that this perpetrator is a sociopath. I've read earlier reports suggesting he was schizophrenic, or something similar. It's possible he could have developed it later in his life after he committed the crimes, but not during the crimes. His thinking and behavior was way too organized. He certainly would have warranted a diagnosis for Conduct Disorder in his childhood years. He would have exhibited problem behavior early, beginning with having problems with authority and following social norms. (Hence the 6th-grade rant about having to write sentences as a punishment that made him "mad.") He would have been a pathological liar and very manipulative. He likely had engaged in assaults, theft, arson or vandalism in his teen years that were never reported, or have since then been expunged from his record. He did not begin his crimes in California in his late teens, but had already been building up to them where he grew up--which is why I believe he is not from the area originally--see below...
I think his core identity is that of a victim. He likely suffered severe trauma and abuse as a child, possibly sexual abuse. These experiences left him feeling completely inadequate and insecure in terms of having any personal power. As a result, he began to over-compenstate by exercising complete power/control over his victims. He has a deep-rooted sense of rage that is demonstrated by intermittent violent outbursts at times that would be hard to control. At the same time, he can function somewhat well in his given environment, at least for a while. I think he specifically experiences rage toward women that is based on his relationship with his mother. Either she abused him, or failed to protect him, and he sees her as responsible for his problems. It's possible that the similar profiles of his victims having long, dark hair and slim build resemble his mother, or a key relationship with a girl in his younger years who rejected him and he is exacting punishment on his victims for his perceived crimes against himself by these key figures.
His early experiences of abuse left him feeling inferior as a developing man, and he had trouble managing his conflicting identities between his interior/imagination of who he fantasizes himself as being (fantasies of grandiosity), and the one he truly was--which was weak, insecure and impotent. He might have had an early sexual encounter with a girl who ridiculed his penis size or ability to perform sexually that left a permanent mark on his identity that he desperately needed to psychologically compensate for...
He would have a history of promiscuity and a need for "conquests." He likely has a history of alcohol and drug abuse. He likely was obsessed with knives and guns and has a collection. As with most sociopaths, in the early stages of involvement with them, he would be described as charming, articulate and intelligent. No one he knew would suspect a darker aspect to his personality, but those closest to him will, and will be in fear of him. He probably has stalked past partners of his that has never been reported due to fear. He would have a history of arrests for assault or theft that has not yet been connected. He needs to live in an environment that is orderly and clean. He would be well-dressed/groomed. He probably sought avenues for public attention or fame at some point, due to his narcissistic personality. Based on hi so-called poem "Excitement's Crave," I wouldn't be surprised to find he attempted a musical career or something similar.
I don't think he is from the Sacramento area. I think he was probably in the Air Force or other military, but was likely kicked out or quit due to his inability to submit to rules and authority. Or he has a horrible military record. It would explain possibly why there are so many cars connected to him since he could borrow cars from fellow military men. I think he grew up in another state where he began his crimes which is why it seems these crimes began out of nowhere. If so, it would explain long absences of crimes. He probably moved on from his last crime to another state. He would not have a stable life and would have several changes in jobs/careers and places he lived. I think he would have attempted to have normal relationships with women that likely ended in divorce, probably several. He wouldn't be competent in bed however, and is not capable of fulfilling sexual relations with his partners. He would select as partners women who were submissive and dependent on a controlling and dominating partner.
He probably grew up in an upscale neighborhood, which is why he was so comfortable targeting his victims in these areas, and he never stood out. He probably still lives in such neighborhoods. I wouldn't be surprised to hear he has had some success in his careers, as he is likely very ambitious and is driven by a need to validate himself as someone successful/prestigious. People will be surprised to find out it is him. He can compartmentalize himself well. He will remember key dates of past crimes and perform some act to memorialize them. He still has the stash of items he took to aid this. He will not have stopped his stalking behaviors but has learned from his mistakes and gotten better. He remains a very dangerous threat to others, and I'm sure he has either stalked or attempted to harass past victims. He might even have moved back to the areas of his crimes later to be close to them. I don't think if he is approached for a DNA sample or questioned he would allow himself to be held accountable and would commit suicide rather than be caught. It would be his last act of control.
I could go on in more depth, but I think this will do for now...I'd love to hear other people's ideas about his profile...
