Because the EAR/GSK attacked as many people as he did, between both the rapes and the murders, it's inevitable that he would have attacked someone who had been previously sexually assaulted in some way. Even if the first rape had been relatively recent in relation to the attack and the EAR had nothing to do with the previous assault, there is a decent statistical probability for it to happen again, unfortunately. I must clarify that this is not because of anything Janelle herself could have done, it's just one of those unfortunate realities we have to live with due to the prevalence of sex crimes.
However, the murder aspect is a freak occurrence and it's really an unfortunate alignment of the stars that the EAR encountered Janelle Cruz when he was in his full-blown murder stage. I would be curious if any of the original EAR victims had been previous victims of sexual assault before the EAR attack. Their anonymity has been much better protected unlike the ONS/GSK phase victims like Janelle, so it's hard to know how they fit in with statistical probabilities.
Though he was known to attack everyone from virgins to promiscuous women, I feel that the EAR/GSK is likely someone who justified his attitudes and actions with the belief that all women are whores, including rape victims, women who chose abortion, and even young girls who dress in relatively scanty clothing. Notice that while he certainly abused girls who weren't far past puberty, he didn't seem to have any interest in true children and thus doesn't seem to have had overt tendencies toward pedophilia. I only stress this because pedophilia was well within his grasp if he had wanted, but that doesn't seem to have been anything he was interested in.
His entire MO is geared toward the woman -- forcing her to tie up her "protector", expecting her to pleasure him, raping her, going through her purse, eating her food and using the kitchen (which in those days was still considered the woman of the house's territory), calling her on the phone, stealing photos of her, trying to initiate dialogue with her, etc.
I'm off on a tangent here, but my original point is that Janelle Cruz's past as a rape victim is a statistical likelihood, but whether the GSK was aware of it or not doesn't matter given his ability to justify almost any cruelty against women. It's unlikely that he had any connection to her beyond extremely unfortunate luck on her part.
