I respectfully disagree with the characterization of looking at circulation management for potential suspects as just a derivation of the paperboy theory, that suggests this idea was developed from the paperboy theory, and I think there is a zero percent chance the EAR was a paperboy and I've never tried to sell that theory, nor did it serve as the basis for wanting to look into circulation personnel, of which the assistant manager position would be most viable.
There's no way he covered the ground he did, by delivering a single paper route, not to mention the delivery of a single route wouldn't give him access to the subscriber data base, familiarity with many neighborhoods, etc. EAR was not a paperboy delivering a route and raping people along the way, the paperboy theory has too many holes in it for it to make sense as a viable option, so I don't agree that this is just another version of an old rehashed theory that was improbable to begin with.
There are key differences between the two ideas. I do agree with you in questioning the relevance of the circulation figures, it's not Germaine to the case or this theory.
I remain unconvinced about many things in this case, but one thing I do strongly feel is that EAR had a legitimate occupational cover for being in neighborhoods, either law enforcement, a utility worker, real estate agent, a circulation manager, etc. It would be very difficult to carry out that scale of the surveillance and stalking without one. If one accepts this idea, then you work backwards and look at what makes a viable occupational option that would facilitate his criminal activities. I think a circulation manager makes the list, a paperboy doesn't.
I think there was something that made the EAR fly under the radar of LE at the time. If he was 14 or 15 years of age this would have automatically placed him outside any scrutiny from the cops.
He could have been a paper boy at the beginning, but then quit so he could rape on a full-time basis.
Let's not forget the use of bicycles, which points to the paper boy angle.
The use of bicycles does not point towards a paperboy. Every young male knows how to ride a bike. EAR didn't do anything spectacular on his bike that would point towards him having any more skill than the next guy so I don't think he necessarily rode all that much. EAR rode his bike to a nearby car then drove away. That doesn't sound like a paperboy to me.
