I would speculate he is at least two standard deviations above the mean IQ, somewhere between 115-145. The military IQ tested him, and his position is indicative of the result. IQ is still the best predictive instrument we have.
He demonstrates a very sophisticated methodology, using both practical and specialised knowledge, as well as demonstrating a high capacity for adaptation and improvisation - suggesting to me both a high fluid and crystallised intelligence.
I think it's quite clear he has a cluster b personality disorder (from the witnessed emotional instability, borderline with a comorbid like ASPD) - this is not reflective of his intelligence.
He is smarter than most on this board.
I never thought was transient in a fringe type lifestyle. Thought he was the highly disturbed son of an LE family-which got him anLE job he managed to get fired from -due to his disturbed behavior. Did not think he was in a long-tern relationship. (Oh well.)
I never thought much about his level of intelligence. The fact the Navy made him a damage control man is instructive. Not for nothing is the rating insignia an ax and a sledge. (Yes, they do more now, but a lot of it is bull work.) Pretty sure a measured IQ of 120-145 would have given him an "Intelligence Specialist rating..see below.
The duties performed by ISs include: analyzing intelligence information; identifying and producing intelligence from raw information; assembling and analyzing multi-source operational intelligence; preparing and presenting intelligence briefings; preparing planning materials for photographic reconnaissance missions; analyzing the results; preparing reports; preparing graphics, overlays and photo/map composites; plotting imagery data using maps and charts; providing input to and receive data ...
As to his demonstrated abilities: 1. Criminal domination, control, and bodily invasion were his life's work. Not surprising he was good. 2. It is impossible to underestimate the advantages he possessed by being a currently serving LEO in the geographical area of his offending. JJD was schooled in the LE protocols of the time AND could have schooled himself in the assets and capabilities of Sac PD and SO. Look at his repeated successful extraction from crime scenes, and most tellingly, his very casually demonstrated knowledge of LE response times and unit assets. Remember when he emerges from the bushes and sauntered out into the middle of a street to watch 3 units proceed away, lights and sirens? Well he KNEW that dept. could not have a 4th car just behind them.
I jus wish that poor housewife had hazarded pulling the trigger when she briefly gained control of his weapon. But I certainly don't blame her for concern for her child in the next room.
The military might put you in a specific job for any number of reasons. Maybe they really needed a lot of damage control guys on that day. Also, getting into intelligence requires not just test scores but the ability to get a high clearance. JJD probably did not want to go into intel----a lot of people don't.
