In 1973, 11-year-old Linda O'Keefe was kidnapped from the Newport Beach area and subsequently found murdered. The initial investigation dead-ended and the case went cold.
In the years that followed the police used new techniques like Parabon imaging and a clever social media campaign to reignite the case. Finally those efforts have paid off. Press release:
The social media campaign was something else. Over a series of tweets, the police recreated Linda’s last moments from a first-person perspective. The story came to life in a way that a detached retelling of a forty-five-year-old case rarely can. This campaign and the officers who worked hard on the case are to be credited for jumpstarting the case again and finally arresting a live suspect.
Wednesday at 10:00 AM PST is the press conference. It’ll be held at the OCDA’s office in the law library downstairs where some GSK talks went down.
