That is a very good question. I'll bet it is known and that this info will come out eventually. I'm thinking it must be related because of blood on a glove. We know he wore gloves and that there was blood on it would make it unlikely that it was just some unrelated random glove.
One, that he just made a mistake for whatever reason. Perhaps he went in lifted the covers to look at the carnage before he left or touched something bloody without realizing it, perhaps it was dark, perhaps he was in a hurry and the sun was going to be coming up. But if he was wearing gloves, it seems there should have been some blood evidence, like blood on the door knob as leaving. I don't recall if the glove was for the left hand. Perhaps he used the right hand. But, now I'm doubting this. I am agreeing with all the points you are making.
But just like the map/6th grade rant/Custer paper all apparently red herrings, I am now thinking the glove was a red herring. He must have really been laughing at the cops and us internet sleuths at how many of his false leads were followed up on...
checking mental institutions because he told a victim he had been in and out of them all his life,
Paul Holes and I'm sure many others in LE and many on the boards working on the map,
me working on Mr. Sato's students, redding was too, and I got the DA interested in that one. -- Actually I did think those things could have been dropped on purpose but a big piece of info came in that made me convinced it was real...well it wasn't)
So, this dropping a bloody glove fits with his MO of non-stop misdirection and false leads. So did this cause LE to spend countless man hours looking into all the people that rode BMX bikes in the area? So did he purposefully get blood on the glove?
But why?
Was it just to have LE investigate the BMX angle? But that would give LE a clue as to where he parked his car, what direction he went in, able to interview neighbors, maybe there would have been someone that spotted him.
Or.....does this indicate he actually went the opposite direction?
Did he even arrive by car, was he staying close by?
But....we know he dropped off the stolen bike from the neighborhood in Dana Point.
Do you have any thoughts on any of these questions?
