I was so looking forward to Jennifer's blog. But sadly because of her rant, I'm completely backing off of my previous opinion. She is a very talented writer and can be funny and witty, I just wish she'd keep her political opinions to herself so I could actually enjoy her writing.
Although I really believe DeAngelo should get the death penalty. He deserves it. He deserves more than the death penalty. But I realize it isn't going to happen because of his age and am feeling that the practical thing is to not pursue the death penalty if that will delay things. I really want the trial to progress before DeAngelo dies and before witnesses and others die HOWEVER, I am not a victim. Thank the Lord I am not a victim. So I completely respect what the victims want but also what the voters of California want and what they voted for.
I do not think the prosecutors are doing this for political gain. I think I believed that for 10 minutes but I honestly believe they are doing this in the belief that this would be justice for the victims. If this prolific, horrible serial killer does not deserve the death penalty, then who does. Also they know this is what the public wants because the voters of California voted to keep the death penalty. Governor Newsom overrode the voters of California.
This is not political, Jennifer. The last Governor, Jerry Brown, was a Democrat and a liberal but he was tough on crime. This Governor is a Democrat, a liberal but tough on crime? Anyway this shows it isn't political. Governor Jerry Brown upheld the death penalty and the will of the people, Governor Newsom is overriding the will of the people.
Jennifer's attack on a white, rich, male (all of which seems to offend her) really was off putting to me. Mr. Harrington might be white, rich and male but so what! So there is something wrong with being white now? and what's wrong with being rich? I'd like to be rich and kudos to those of you who are. And what the heck is wrong with being male? Seriously? What does this have to do with anything.
Mr. Harrington is a hero in my book and a real, true crime fighter in his own way. The Harrington family spent over a million dollars to help pass Prop. 69. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. Also, a million dollars spent that many years ago would translate into how much now days? Wow! Also the Harringtons devoted their time, went before congress, fought and he won! Hurray for the Harrington's. Although Prop 69 did not lead to solving this case, I can only imagine how many other cases it solved and how many lives it saved. Mr. Harrington continues to do good work and had a fund raiser. So how is that a bad thing.
It isn't practical to think that Jennifer is going to be consulted on everything. How many victims are there. 50 rape victims and what about their husbands that were victims, tied up till their hands turned black, guns put to their heads and cocked, their lives affected so adversely -- so 100 victims in No. Cal -- then the murdered victims families. It isn't practical, in my way of thinking, that everybody is going to be consulted and no doubt within that group of victims there are going to be different opinions.
Anyway, I think Jennifer thinks this is politics because she sees Conservative against Liberal I believe. Again think Jerry Brown and Gavin Newsom, both Democrats one tough on crime, one ignores the will of the people. BOTH DEMOCRATS.
So, I am completely backing off what I said previously about not having the death penalty in this case. It is so richly deserved. I am so happy he sat there and heard over and over again how the people want him to be given death. I just want the trial to not be delayed but whatever the victims want, I'm behind. And I want to step up and defend someone I consider a hero and that is Mr. Bruce Harrington and I am completely backing off my thoughts that the DA's are pursuing the death penalty for political reasons. Nope!
