As you note above, there’s no guarantee that calling the cops on JJD that night would have altered JJD’s LE career. A good, young, white kid who was going to college and making his grades who was a US war vet would likely have been viewed sympathetically by which ever good ol’ boy county mountie showed up to make the report. It wouldn’t have been his (it wouldn’t have been a woman back then) report that disqualified JJD from a future in law enforcement, it would have required seeing the whole thing through with charges being filed and everyone showing up in court. That he had a gun would’ve been perceived differently then than it would be today.
The young woman’s father did what he was qualified to do and counseled that troubled young man, not for two minutes but for two hours (or so). The man of the house managed to get JJD to leave and leave his family alone since.
If, reporting JJD for this incident had resulted in JJD being disqualified from a career in LE, I don’t believe it would have prevented him from becoming EARONS. I suspect that JJD would have become a truck driver as his buddy did.
I apologize sir for being contrary— I don’t wish to be argumentative. I guess I’m playing “devil’s advocate”. The best possible outcome would have been for Bonnie’s father to have killed JJD’s nasty ass.
It’s a also true that being disqualified from becoming a cop wouldn’t have stopped him from becoming the EAR. The only reason he was becoming a cop in the first place was so he could be a superior EAR. JJD becoming the EAR was inevitable. Bonnie said JJD snapped a dog’s neck in front of her, killing it instantly. He was already the EARONS.
Hi Cleo,
You make such a valid point about JJD already being the EAR/ONS.
We now know he had a history of vile acts prior to any of the EAR series.
I also have always wondered why he had such a short stint in high school. As a student, he attended Folsom High School from the date of 1961 - 1963.
He then received his GED in June 1964.
In September 1964, he entered the Navy.
I speculate the reason he had such a short stay in high school from 1961 - 1963 was he may have been expelled due to a violent act, possibly even sexual in nature, against someone else.
Students are expelled quite frequently due to extremely violent acts.
