The purpose of this thread is to establish what actual evidence exists that the man who spoke out at a town hall meeting was subsequently attacked as a result. I have seen many posters proceeding based on the assumption that this is is a given, but have never been able to find any evidence that this man and his wife were targeted in an attack by a predator who was present at the town hall meeting where the man spoke. I have raised this question before, and the only response I received was assurances that it was a "deliberate" attack and then crickets. I've seen all the same publicly-available documents and evidence about the EAR attacks that everyone else has seen, and have not been able to establish that this detail is anything more than hearsay. If it were anything more than hearsay, why didn't the press and police at the time jump on such an astonishing and awful set of circumstances that could have certainly been used to narrow the suspect list? Instead, I have found evidence that this connection is pure speculation. Note this annotated copy of a magazine article from 2003 is actually the first time this supposed fact ever appeared in print (link: www.jjmcgr.org/BK/Sacramento%20Magazine%20Annotated.pdf) The same article is full of factual inaccuracies. After that, the detail gets repeated as fact until it becomes a fact.
I would like to know which police officers have actually publicly confirmed that the attack that is commonly linked to the town-hall meeting was definitely the work of a predator who was present at the meeting, heard the man speaking out, and targeted him as a result. What evidence supports this? What did the attacker say to the victims (it clearly must have been something he said because the victims obviously did not recognize their attacker from the meeting) that established a link between the town hall meeting and the attack? (Note: Det. Carol Daly makes this assertion in one of the TV documentaries about the EAR, but provides no evidence to support her claim). It seems to me that some people simply cannot accept that the attack was coincidence - one of many that are bound to occur when you have such a prolific offender operating in such a small geographical area.
So much time has been spent analyzing and discussing photos from a town hall meeting that may or may not be the one where the man who later became a victim spoke out. I would like to know what actual, substantial evidence exists that proves this man was ever targeted in that town hall meeting. I asked this question when I first joined the board and it was lightly brushed aside, but perhaps it can be given a little more time because a lot of man hours of research have been spent proceeding on this assumption. Yet I've never heard the police say it, and none of the accounts of this attack in print make any connection to the town hall meeting. Including Sudden Terror, where the account of the attack is rendered in some detail.
So...where's the evidence this isn't just an urban legend about the EAR?
