P.S. Thinking about the Colonel and his obsessive qualities, his very neat organization of the pictures he took etc. I wonder if EAR/ONS was also like that.

Some possible sightings of EAR/ONS seems to indicate he was very neat, clothing, hair. He was well prepared in his organization, planning, surveillance for his crimes., yet some sightings said this meticulous dresser poi left in a ratty car. Undoubtedly a car that probably purchased for cash, left unregistered and just used for one or more of his crimes.

This is leading me back to the evidence dropped in Danville where the dogs tracked his scent to where his car was parked by a railroad tracks. Uncharacteristically sloppy! Did he drop it on purpose to toy with LE and have them off on a wild goose chase? Or was it because he had used some ratty car that was full of junk and it fell out and didn't even belong to him? Yet the map I definitely believe belonged to him. So did it fall out by accident because the car was full of junk but it did belong to him. What to think.

I'm trying to tie in his OCD to dropping the journal/Custer Homework/map. I am thinking the dropping of the shoelaces, twine, was purposeful. Why? Just to scare people and to say, look who was creeping around your neighborhood! He did that in No. Cal and he dropped the twine from O/M up Kellogg to Queen Ann, the corner where H/H lived, abut turned left instead of right. Was that meant to tell them, I still outside, I'm still here, and the twine was meant as a message for them? I think that is very possible. But, I still also think it was to frame A.S. on Queen Ann --perhaps he was multi tasking? What a puzzle to try to figure out! How to get inside the mind of a madman?

However, hanging ligatures in the tree is just plain weird. So weird that I wonder if he did it to create the impression of being insanely weird, which is, in and of itself, weird.

He sure liked to scatter stuff around, that's for sure. He might have been smart in giving LE large areas of crime scenes to cover. He might have been try to spread the feeling of terror throughout the neighborhood. Or maybe he was just plain bat-sh-t crazy.

I think a lot of what he did was done simply because he could and that it wasn't particularly symbolic aside from the fact that it was his way of putting his stamp on things. He thought of neighborhoods as a playground and he wanted to "play" with whatever compelled him at the time, and with whatever he had available to him. Bullets left in neighboring yards. Knife in a cheese box. Bags of jewelry left on a neighbor's bed.

My unanswerable question  is... what didn't get noticed? Any number of objects, pieces of evidence, etc. could have been left around the neighborhood and nobody would have ever given them a second thought. Of course someone is going to react to finding a bullet in their yard, but what about a random sock lying on the street? An alarm clock left in an alleyway somewhere? There could be a hundred little things that he scattered around but nobody found them or they were too far from the crime scene. I know that even with my own house, there could be things missing and I'd have no idea they were gone unless I was specifically looking for them. It's possible some of the victims weren't even aware of all the objects he took.

He was doing odd things as VR, too. Moving items from one home to the yard or home of another victim. He was leaving a puzzle I think, just like he was leaving a puzzle in the things he left leading up to A.S's house, dangling the bindings from the tree branches and leaving his victim's clothes in the neighbor's yard, the writings, the EC poem, the knife in the Velveeta Cheese box, etc. He was very purposeful in what he was doing, imo, and he was getting a kick that LE wasn't figuring out his puzzles/clues. Like northern posted, I bet a ton of things he did were overlooked.

Or, perhaps, some kid's homework assignment, stolen from a burglarized home. Pure speculation, but I do wonder.

In the Eva Taylor case, a size small pale blue tee shirt was left neatly folded on her bedroom. It had no blood on it. The family are positive it did not belong to Mrs. Taylor. I wonder if that is another tie in to the EAR/ONS and Mrs. Taylor. What is the purpose of this. Was he trying to frame an unknown person. It wouldn't have been an 12 year old Brett Glasby that he was trying to frame. I wonder if the tee shirt had been from some other break-in in the vicinity?

So the "T" shirt was pale blue? He probably did steal it from another break-in, but he was leaving the shirt to tell LE who he was. Eva Taylor's murder was done by EAR/ONS - no doubt about it now.

Yes, PC, pale blue. I do think the tee shirt is another indication it was EAR/ONS. I am leaning more and more to thinking it actually really was him in spite of Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office escalation of violence theory not fitting. Also Mrs. Taylor's daughter had hang up calls for years! even though they moved frequently. That seems to indicate he may have been living in Santa Barbara at that time. CREEPY! To tell you the truth, there is a reason I think he may still be living in Goleta.

Yeah, I think he was switching around in his crimes. Murders in some places, rapes in other places, and that he had already gone through the usual escalation of violence progression before he started as EAR.

I wonder why you ask that question geko, are you at liberty to say?  It is an interesting question/observation.  There is some family drama going on in my extended family and one family "psychopath" is angry at another (wonderful) family member and my relative discovered the good family member's picture turned around facing backwards.  The idea that EAR would put a picture face down almost indicates that he knows that person and is angry at that person.

I'd love to say but for now it's work in progress. It's likely to have happened at scenes where the TV or lamp is covered. Usually the photo is placed flat and not turned. I think your family is just disrespecting the person in the photo, GSK had 'other' reasons.

This case has my head spinning.  In the case of Eva Taylor, the deescalation of violence is a really important factor yet Investigator Pool does say that murderer sometimes does choose a vulnerable victim to commit his first murder and then not kill again for years.  To deescalate to being just a ransacker (IF the EAR/ONS was the VR and I think he was) at first glance doesn't seem to make sense and then to just be a rapist and still not kill is a really valid point SBSO is making, but could that be explained because for some reason EAR/ONS did not feel free to kill except in Goleta?  Was there something about Goleta?  Was he on his home turf in Goleta and felt comfortable to take that evil step?  or the opposite, was Goleta far from his relatives and his real home?  There was a "youth" seen jumping over her rear fence earlier in the evening.  So that also indicates this could have been his first murder.  That beast, I get angry just typing this.

I know. There are so many variables. It could be that just because he was ransacking in Visalia and raping in Sac, there wasn't a de-escalation and that he was killing people in other places. Like how Robert Hansen raped some while he killed others and switched back and forth. Many serial killers follow a predictable pattern, but many don't.

I think it's pretty clear that EAR/ONS was mobile. Just as Eva Taylor's seems more and more likely to be one of his murders, it wasn't connected by LE and there may very well be other murders out there that are his during his VR and EAR times that haven't been connected to him. Maybe Jennifer Armour's or maybe murders in other areas, and they may go back further than we think. I'm thinking that's more and more likely as we learn more about his crimes and particularly Eva Taylor's murder. I think Goleta was a comfort zone for him probably, so that's why he went back to do the later attacks.

I don't put a lot of weight on the description of a youth seen jumping over her fence. It doesn't sound like the neighbor got a good enough look at him. Was he wearing a disguise like LE think he did sometimes while trolling neighborhoods as EAR? Did the neighbor assume he was a youth because he jumped Eva's fence? Did his clothes make the neighbor think it was a youth? The descriptions later in the Goleta neighborhood of people that may have been ONS varied.

All good points. About seeing a youth jumping over her fence. It would be so good if I could talk to that witness or if someone in LE would and if that could be cleared up. Sometimes it is very obvious that someone is a kid or a youth and other times it could be thought he was younger because he from a distance he was thin/wiry/agile able to leap a fence easily or perhaps from the clothes he wore gave an impression. It would be good to clear that up. He is positive it was a youth. I have no doubt that "youth" was the killer.
