On the same note, it's been said before that EAR might be less sexually dysfunctional and more conditioned to his own manual stimulation if he was a chronic masturbator. I can see that being the case even though he might have had a level of sexual dysfunction to go along with it.
You're absolutely right. Many violent sexual offenders that also engage in paraphilia (peeping, stocking, exposing etc...) get so excited that they masturbate to orgasm before interacting with a victim. Many also experience sexual disfunction with a victim too. It's not that hard to fathom either. Think about how many men view pornography. Now how many of those men could actually perform in the films they obsess over? Many violent sexual offenders suffer from feelings of gross social inadequacy that retards their ability to have any sort of sexual contact with someone on an equal level. They feel that the entire world is constantly watching them and judging them. Sadly the reason why many of these offenders resort to violence is through frustration caused by their own inability. This is why they seek complete control. EAR/ONS, as a nonsocial offender fits this type of profile very well. Despite obsessing over his victims before attacks he had little to no social interaction with them. Even while offending he had what many refer to as a "script" and he became very upset when that script/fantasy was broken.

Your post makes me think of the BTK, who even after subduing/killing victims preferred to masturbate rather than penetrate them. EAR attempted penetration but often briefly and with mixed results. It also sounds like he reached climax during a number of the attacks without having a full erection, indicating that he was mentally very stimulated by what was going on, while his body was not necessarily as responsive. Speaking of compulsive masturbation, we also don't know if he had been masturbating earlier before the attacks, in which case he could have had difficulty achieving an erection later. I've never seen anything to suggest semen was found (or even searched for) outside of the homes he attacked, but I suppose it's possible he was masturbating during his prowls.
I would be curious what the stats are for compulsive masturbation in the rest of the population, too, though, and how "compulsive" is defined. I wouldn't be surprised if ~80% of men masturbate twice a day if a partner isn't available, especially with the internet and phones giving people 24/7 access to porn. Whether or not that is compulsive from a stastistical perspective, I don't know.
