I don't kiss anyone's ass, but Pendleton has been nothing but a highly objective, intelligent member here and "fawning" is not the impression I've taken from him.
He is absolutely right that there is an artistic component to various angles of this case and other criminal cases, especially those involving serial killers. That was sort of an underlying motivation in me creating this topic, as without a doubt the EAR approached his crimes with an artistic sensibility, just as many killers have. Beyond the practicality of how he looked and acted, there was something expressive or even theatric about his overall MO. Within the narcissistic, bloodsucking mind of a serial killer, the act of violating other human beings is akin to a rock concert where the killer himself is center stage.
Serial killers are both the subjects and creators of a great deal of "folk art" or "outsider art" and I don't think it's a coincidence. Much like artists, serial killers are often driven by their own fantasies and lusts with little to no practical motivation or justification for what they do... they are simply compelled. Few if any other crimes fit this category. Even rape normally has somewhat of a practical motivation, but in the case of the EAR I do not feel he was ever motivated by rape so much as abstract sexual release.
I say all of this because I see a possibility that creativity was a part of EAR's normal identity, though in his case, much like Danny Rolling's, the deviant criminal lifestyle was of much greater priority in his sick mind.
Man, this place is too weird.
