Hi. I'm TV's Wesley. Hope you're well today
Most of you know I am trying to make a film about the EARONS. Most of it has been touch and go, between investors interests and my vision being broad as possible. I have written oodles of full scripts, some of which a few of you have read. Recently, I have had the motivating touch to move ahead with the latest project and I have began a kickstarter fund raiser. I humbly ask that you all give me a shot here, as I know I can convey this story on a level that will not only generate a new interest in the case, but dig into the facts we want to know.
Here is the lay out of my various projects in trying to get this thing working... if you're uninterested in the history of my film project, scroll past the boldly italicized parts to see where I am now.
initial concept:
The first idea I'd had to create the screenplay surrounding the cold case of California's Original Night Stalker came after taking a serious interest in the case around 2012. I came to learn more and more about the case, though it wasn't until the following year when I came to the online "Proboards" that I started taking the case itself even more seriously than the project.
At the time I was working on a spec script surrounding an original character who moonlighted as a serial killer. The story shared themes with other biopic horror films about similar individuals. I chose to pursue the venue of making an EARONS film when learning the truth behind the broad history and immediately set out to make it happen.
By August of 2014, I had developed a twelve page film treatment detailing the outline of my vision for the EARONS project. With the aide of some dedicated individuals working to solve the case, I then prepared to approach investors to finance the film. Showing them such films as Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, David Fincher's Zodiac, De Palma's Black Dahlia and Mr Brooks, my investors were sold on the project and became producers. We titled the project EXCITEMENTS CRAVE, after evidence involved with the actual case itself. By time the second draft of the screenplay was finished, it had been retitled PUNISHMENT after another item of evidence.
the "EARONS sAGA":
My initial vision was a quad-trilogy, if you will, a series of up to four films surrounding the entire case behind the EARONS. In order to cut corners for budgeting reasons, the films were placed in a "floating time line" that mirrored the attitudes and themes of the seventies.
The "prequel" would surround the Visalia Ransacker and though he may have not been the actual east area rapist, his story connects seamlessly. This film would follow the Ransacker into his career up until the murder of Claude Snelling. It would end with the third acts following the first rapes committed by the East Area Rapist, leading to an ambiguous ending.
Following the story of the Ransacker, the next film would follow the story of the East Area Rapist in great detail with a noire distinction. Themes would surround police investigating the crimes and the chaos that ensued, taking notes from both Crompton and Shelby's books. It would begin in Sacramento and end with the murders of Offerman and Manning. This ending would be less ambiguous, as it is well shown that he is not finished.
The final film of the initial trilogy would follow the most notorious chapter of the saga, as the serial rapist became a serial killer. Whereas the last film would follow police in North California who seemed to acknowledge their guy's presence, this film is only about the man who has completely lost his soul. The story would end in modern times, with an epilogue detailing the current status of the case.
If the perpetrator of these real life crimes had been captured or identified, a fourth and final film would be released to officially end the story. This one would be totally about the individual and what brought him to such lengths. It would end with him beginning where the saga began, if he was the Visalia Ransacker he would be placed at the beginning of the first film. If he was only the EARONS, he would be placed at the beginning of the second.
The outline created was turned into a singular screenplay and at the behest of the production company financing the project, it was turned into a biopic horror film. Changes upon changes were made, well into filming which took place in the suburbs of Wake County, NC, and community of Hanover County, NC.
In April of 2015 however, I broke away from the project after so many changes made my vision a sham. Not only had the story become muddled, they wanted to change Sacramento into Raleigh, NC, while still selling the film as "Based On A True Story". This act was the final straw for me personally.
I have since begun writing a new script, with very artistic themes that might suit a creative project, though very budget conscious.
***** Entertainment LLC owns the screenplay to PUNISHMENT currently and I have no interest in being involved. However, because of the material filmed and the fact they did not want to hire a director, they have been asking me to reconsider.
Needless to say, things have returned in my favor and I am going to make the single film and I have control back. Some have even donated prematurely, which has given me the motivation to get this thing done. I have dropped the Ransacker angle, though it will be alluded to appropriately. This film is about the EARONS influence due to his crimes and is loosely based on the events. I have taken great measures to ensure that no one crime is singled out except for the offender and I have taken a creative step forward to ensure that the project will be made.
The idea is to portray events that occurred between 1976 and 1986... names and locations are changed to protect them... I assume nothing in the films script.
More will be added here, I just wanted to get the word out that I am back in business with this deal and could really use some help.
Thanks a trillion guys. You're the best.
Truly,
TV's Wesley
