The two sketches zode refers to are indeed accurate representations of Maggiore suspects, immediately after the double homicide.
It's worth noting that the sketch of what looks to me like a very boyish looking teenager and that of a late 20s/early 30-ish man posted above (the two sketches without mustaches) are supposedly of the same person. It's quite a revision and it wasn't done years later, it was done weeks later. Our old case friend hypnosis was used on witnesses of the Maggiore killings.
I think it's interesting that the boyish pic was basically abandoned by LE but has generated enough interest amongst 'webslueths' to lead to the 'enhanced boy' pictured above in color. This is perhaps because of it's resemblance to the "Billy Mumy" sketch from October 1977. What is interesting about that sketch, which is related to attack #24 (the 'biker dude' with the gun that had had its ammo removed), is that the witnesses who saw the suspicious person it was based upon reported both a mustached and a mustache-less POI. One of the victims of this attack also reported a car horn, door-bell ringing and bangs on a window. She claims to have heard two voices though I believe she described one as female.
So there are a lot of pieces of information which may or may not be accurate and which may or may not be manipulations of perception by a cagey perp to consider. I do find the magical mustache to be of interest, personally.
