There were a lot of young women and girls who were abducted and murdered during the late 1960’s through the early 1980’s in the greater SF Bay Area. Some have been linked to known or unknown serial killers while others are anyone’s guess.
Four young women were abducted and found murdered from central Contra Costa County in a four month period. The cases are quite similar and have never been solved.:
• Leona Roberts, 16, was last seen Nov. 10, 1969 in front of her boyfriend's apartment on Tormey Road in Rodeo. Her body was found at Bolinas Lagoon near Point Reyes on Dec. 28, 1969.
• Elaine Davis, 17, disappeared while baby-sitting her 3-year-old sister at their Pioneer Avenue home in Walnut Creek on Dec. 1, 1969. A body found floating off Light House Point in Santa Cruz in 1969 was exhumed in May 2001 and identified as Davis using dental records.
• Cosette Ellison 15 was last seen about 3:30 p.m. March 3, 1970 in the driveway of her Canyon Road home in Moraga. Her remains were found Jan. 1, 1971 in a ravine off of Morgan Territory Road.
• Patricia King, 25, was found near the football stadium at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill on March 5, 1970. She was strangled with her leggings. She was abducted on her way to her car after an evening exercise class.
Phillip Joseph Hughes grew up in that area and was later convicted of the murder of three women in that general area between 1972 and 74. These crimes were similar to the earlier ones but each was a little different. His wife was somewhat of an accomplice in those crimes and testified against him. Of known perps, he is the most likely but it is by no means a certainty. Deangelo could have done them as well.
I thought it was very unlikely that someone could abduct and murder 4 women in such a short period and then just stop. Now, I realize it is quite possible.
