trabuco, thank you for the kind words. The OCDA's office seems to have been able to put a price on justice. It seems some business and criminal elements were able to make deals with the office, as May and Chula seems to have done. It is a little worrisome that the DA's office had control of the law enforcement jurisdictions, as well as various criminal snitches. It makes me wonder what type of currencies May and Chula used to broker their deals with the office. Was it just money, or was it some type of services as well? Having men like PAT, Paduano, and Marvitch around might be a desirable resource. It might explain why these men were so lightly punished in comparison to their crimes. It also might help to explain some of the deaths occurring during this time. 

I want to throw this out there too. To be clear, I am not proposing that PAT is earons. And I am not proposing that Mr Y is earons. It seems every time someone mentions Mr Y, an either/or argument takes shape. That isnt what I am wanting to do. But I am interested in how he relates to these people. I believe Brad at one point was 100% sure that Brian Maggiore would have been aware of Mr Y, and I would think he might have met him at Mathers. I am also wondering what type of relationship might have been in place between Mr Y and Alan May. Alan May might have actually met Mr Y at one of numerous Republican functions that the were being used to give thanks to our vets, and to exploit their political cache.

The curious thing for me is PAT, Alan May, Harland Braun, and Riconosciuto. PAT is connected to all three. May had the connections through Robert Finch to the Nixon White House. And Braun has the connections to the Las Vegas and Chicago Mob. Why is a FBI snitch being defended by Braun and May? Can anyone cite one worthy case in which he gave any info that led to the arrest of someone or something important? Anything that could justify his freedom? Or Abbott's freedom? I find it odd that Finch was placed in charge of Health, Education, and Welfare. Or that Earl Bryan was placed in charge of social services like Medi-Cal in Reagan's state administration.  This is what I have gathered so far, PAT was working for May who was working for Finch who was working for Nixon.

In regards to Manuela's murder, at the time of her death, there wasnt any DNA link. There wasnt any discussion of ear or ons. There would have been nothing to stop the LE of the time to look at PAT, or his associates. And PAT was known to have been in the area at the time. He was being used to snitch on another murder for hire case, in which he admits that he was in OC during the time of her murder. And that he had been asked to commit the murder.  They should have looked at PAT and his associates. But this was not done. Based on the knowledge we have now, we know PAT isnt earons, but they didnt back then. And some in LE did believe that Manuela's murder was a murder for hire. But they were sure David arranged it. I dont think he did. But they suspected it in Lyman's death. And I think it fits for Janelle's as well.

 The crimes that are gathered together as earon's seem to defy any logic that I can see. So there has to be something else going on. The idea that Sandia has offered about framing other people for the crimes seems to me to be very descriptive of the crimes. So I have tried to consider what people would have access to the info about these other people and still be in a place to commit these crimes. The people I thought of were LE snitches, probation officers, state and federal LE, and people involved with them. To have enough info about possible framing victims in such a wide area and including across state lines would mean a federal entity, so I have been leaning towards FBI. I think in a way the people that were being framed could tell us more then the people that were victimized. It would be good to see a list of the possible framing victims and what connections they had.

Albion, you're welcome and thank you for the wealth of information you make available.

I basically just want to say that I strongly agree with your thoughts in your original post that I copied above.

I would also like to add that I keep going back to Opportunity, Motive and Means. Logic tells us that the way he avoided LE and seemed to have all of the information moving forward suggests he was in a position to be easily looked over. A wolf in sheep's clothing.  That last part is just my opinion but anyway I think you have thought this through and Drifter made a good point also in another thread today along these lines and it all just reminds me of how easy it is to get away from the basics where I believe the EARONS can be found.

It doesnt have to be the Klan that I am talking about. Many different racial groups latched on to the eugenics ideas. But most of the research was done by whites. I left most of the LE connections out, and a few others, as well. The key point is the date January 16, 1979. That is the day the Shah of Iran left his country. That single event through Maverick Air into disarray. And at that moment the investors in Maverick, as well as the investors in GAP were all scrambling to retrieve their money. I dont believe it is a coincidence that Jay Smith lived near D/S. Or was friends with O/M. Or was from Sac, went to Boalt Hall a few years after Lyman, or had a similar business connections. But if Jay Smith was the one person who could unwind the smuggling and money laundering going on at Maverick, then he is probably not going to be murdered. Not until men like Sloan, Beauchamp, and Peagram got their investments back. But I would guess those men got their money back.

I dont think it is a coincidence that Arnholt lost his business empire at the exact same time that Nixon lost the presidency. They had been tied together since 1948. W Patrick Moriarty was doing the same thing. And Younger and Cecil Hicks would have been prime targets. IMO, something had to have been in place for Phillip Arthur Thompson to have been used an OCDA's snitch. And something else to consider. Even though Nixon was gone from public service, his political machine carried on. They just found new politicians and businessmen to work for.

This is from Wiki. this is just concerning the journalists. But it seems there were more activists and others who were assassinated. And somehow Alan May was brought in to defend one of the accused killers. I believe I read that May was $375 and spent close to $400,000 of his own money in the defense. In the attachment about Ed Cooperman's murder, the authors themselves question the DA's office and their decisions. And if PAT was working for May while at Creep, then was he "JUSTICE DEPARTMENT OPERATIVE" also? I cant see how it could possibly be true. Tap Van Pham

The third murder was five years later. This time the VOECRN attacked Tap Van Pham (a.k.a. Hoai Diep Tu) in Garden Grove, California. He did editorial work and advertisements for Mai and other Canadian companies to promote cash transfers and travel services to Vietnam. He was asleep in his office on the morning of 9 August 1987 when it burst into flames and he died afterward from smoke inhalation. Police investigators said the fire was an arson and the VOECRN had doused the office in gasoline and lit it on fire.[1][3][7][8] From this case, police concluded from undisclosed evidence the VOECRN group was connected to other crimes but the Federal Bureau of Investigation refused to get involved in the investigation.[5]
Nhan Trong Do

The fourth journalist to be assassinated came two years later, when Nhen Trong Do was shot dead in his car in Fairfax County, Virginia. In this case, there were no suspects in the killing.[7] He was a layout designer for Van Nghe Tien Phong.[1][7]
Triet Le

The last of five Vietnamese journalists to be assassinated was Triet Le, 61, who lived in Bailey's Crossroads, Virginia. He was also employed by Van Nghe Tien Phong,[1] where he was a columnist known for his controversial opinions against communists and the Vietnam government.[9] He was assassinated 22 September 1990. Your flowchart is absolutely fascinating.

It theoretically connects most of the VIPs that were relevant during that time period.  To me, one of the big question marks is Evelle Younger, and I would love to sneak a peak into his files as they relate to the EAR case and to the Maggiore murder case.

One of the big breaks in this case might even be to know what connection existed between Evelle Younger and Duane Lowe and/or John Price in Sacramento, and ... what connection existed between Evelle Younger and Mr. Y, as there must surely have been one.

Albionite, earlier in this thread you mentioned a POI that was from San Jose. I'm aware of this guy in a serial killing in my area (WA/ID) and I would love to know what information you have on LV. I've never heard of him as being a possible POI in other cases but have studied the WA/ID murders he was involved in. Please message me if you can give me any info. I can let you know what I've learned about him too. This is one case I've spent a lot of time on and would love to see him prosecuted for his crimes.

I have read so much about the Octopus. It always reminds me of that octopus at Scripps Institute that would go from tank to tank and then back again. I found it interesting that the Alessio family had been laundering money with that hot water racetrack in TJ. And then they get in trouble for bribing officials at Lompoc. But yet they stay in the power structure of San Diego. And of course, this isnt suggesting that Davies was corrupt at all, but I cant help but wonder why he would have had a horse racing partnership with Alessio. I believe I posted another article showing that Alessio and Arnholt had the judges and LE in their back pockets. And then here is Alessio and Davies in a partnership that just reeks of money laundering and bribery. And Davies was a UC Regent. I met some of the UC Regents back in the 90's. The ones I met didnt give a crap about the schools, only where they were having lunch. What I find telling, is the backstory of Tony Nugent, which I think is representative of much of the workings of the judicial system. He represented in Arnholt and Alessio, during their heyday, and their crooked business dealings, and then amazingly, Nugent gets appointed a judgeship. Is that the way it is supposed to work? Evidently, if you are a crony of Davies and Alessio, it is. I might guess it is also the reason why Alvarez was the victim of a murder for hire just prior to meeting with Rios, another Boalt Hall graduate and Vietnam Veteran.

Just some more background on the Smith/Alessio connections. This is interesting in that May and Oscar Goodman were friends and associates. that might explain why William Cassidy went to work for Goodman after leaving May. Oscar Goodman, the mob lawyer and then mayor of Las Vegas. The one who represented Tony Spilotro. Is it funny that Goodman told May about the Hotel Del Coronado? The one that Alessio had owned? We have already seen that Alessio and John Davies had a big hand in advising the appointments of judges through Wilson and Arnold, but surely Alessio might have been able to give some advice to Pat Brown and his son Jerry. Which is great considering that Lyman Smith was about to be appointed a judge and only waiting for a call from Jerry Brown's office, and that Jerry Brown was Governor at the time, and Evelle Younger was attorney general. I have made a few posts about Younger's connection to organized crime, and in particular those associated with La Costa.

May was discussing a case with attorney Oscar Goodman over lunch when the subject of the Del ghost popped up. May, as he puts it, was “babbling endlessly” about his theories on the case. Goodman suggested if May wanted to continue talking, he check into the Del and resume the discussion with the rumored ghost. “If she gets bored, she can just disappear,” Goodman told May. May made a reservation at the hotel and asked for the “haunted” room. Other researchers have focused their attention on what is now 3502, May said. One night in the small, windowlcss, un-air conditioned room convinced him the story was in error. The room was too small to have been anything other than a maid’s room, according to May.

“It just didn’t make sense, so I set out to disprove the legend of the room,” May said. “I never believed in ghosts. I never disbelieved and said it was all wrong. I was just never a strong believer.” While disproving legends surrounding 3502, May pieced together documentation showing that if any room of the hotel is haunted, it is 3312. Its ghost, according to May, is Kale Morgan, also known as Lottie A. Bernard. May says the ghost appeared to him while he stayed in 3312 last September and prompted him to solve the case."

The Californians who oppose Alessio prefer to stalk him in the high grass. They will talk frankly enough about him, but not for attribution. "For one thing," said a California track official, "I don't think a man who is making book on California races should be running one of our tracks. It presents too many temptations." Alessio replies that it is not he but his brother Russell who operates the Foreign Book at Caliente. Johnny explains he is simply the executive director of the racetrack. It is a distinction that falls on deaf ears.

From the handsomely manicured breeding ranches of the Central Valley to the executive suites at Santa Anita and Hollywood Park the chant of the snipers has a repetitive ring to it, prefaced always by "Keep me out of this but..." or "I don't want to get personally involved but...." They point out that Johnny likes to hang around the baths at La Costa with all those types from Las Vegas in their Sulka terry cloths or to enjoy the view and the company from the terrace of Cabo San Lucas. They remind you how Johnny's brother Russ was convicted of racketeering in San Diego not long ago and how baby brother Tony was strangely abducted and held for $200,000 ransom. "Don't quote me," they keep telling you, "but I don't think this kind of fellow should be running a racetrack in California."

Not too many people around San Diego care to think of John Alessio in these terms, however, and those who do are generally regarded as troublemakers. The popular image is that of the self-made tycoon, civic benefactor and philanthropist. They know that through his ownership in Westgate-California Corporation, a holding company that is intertwined with virtually all the business interests of Alessio and Arnholt Smith, Johnny touches just about everybody's life at one point or another. Ride in a taxicab in San Francisco, Los Angeles or Oakland and not just your health but your wallet is indirectly in Alessio's hands. Pour some Girard's salad dressing on your lettuce, and Johnny is titillating your taste buds. Eat a little tuna or salmon or crab, and the chances are that one of Johnny's men has caught or packed it. Around the airports of the West Coast, one of Alessio's chaps may be hustling your luggage or driving you into the city in one of his buses. He may even hold a policy on your life or good health.

Oscar Goodman and Alan May were friends. And they both had William Cassidy working for them. Cassidy was advertising his knife fighting book in soldier of Fortune at the time. I find Cassidy amazing. I am going to add his Nevada Correctional page as well. He is awesome. He worked for lawyers. As a court investigator. He carried a badge. Some say he worked in Phoenix Program. He worked for the mob lawyers. He bragged about killing people. He wrote books on killing people with knives. And then years later he gets into an internet fight with the Buddhists.

Lawmen concluded -- but never proved -- that the architect of the hit was Tony "The Ant" Spilotro, the street boss of Las Vegas, whose primary job was to protect the casino skimming operation. Infamous hitman turned informant Jimmy "The Weasel" Fratianno confessed knowing that Spilotro had cased the Rand home prior to the slaying, on orders from the Balistrieri's of Milwaukee. In his life, the late Spilotro was a suspect in 22 unsolved gangland slayings.

Oscar Goodman, now the mayor of Las Vegas, was the lawyer for Spilotro and Glick at the time of Rand's murder.

"I don't believe either of them had anything to do with her demise," Goodman said. "They never talked about her. I hear her name mentioned once of twice in context of other people in the San Diego area, but never pointed her out as someone they needed to fear or wanted to hurt."

Las Vegan Wendy Hanley says she knows who killed Rand. Her common-law husband back in the '70s was a notorious labor official named Tom Hanley. He and his son Gramby carried out a series of restaurant bombings at the behest of the Culinary Union. They were later convicted in the execution slaying of culinary boss Al Bramlet. Police believe they were a father-and-son assassination team who did odd jobs for the mob and the unions.

"They were two of the most active contract murderers in Western states' history, I'm sure," said David Hatch, a longtime Las Vegas Metro detective.

Hanley says she remembers overhearing about the Rand murder before it happened. When Gramby was packing a suitcase, Tom came back and said to "hurry and get on the plane," she said. "

"Gramby came back and told me he was going to fly to California to kill a witch. Three weeks later, he came back with a new car that he bought in California, bought with money he received for killing the witch," Hanley said.

Wendy Hanley's word isn't enough by itself to pin the murder on Gramby Hanley, but it is enough to get police to reopen the case.

Three different attachments

The first is diagram of the connections of Alan May, PAT, and Cassidy. I see some post of Kevin Bacon game, but I think this is different. This is a straight line of connections. I believe this would show more of a social, or criminal grouping. For instance, Harland Braun didnt just represent PAT, he also had an interest at Cabazon and, more telling, imo, he was the son-in-law of Angelini. And for May, he didnt just represent murderers, he employed PAT at one time. And Cassidy worked for May in OC, and then Goodman in Vegas. Murder victims follow PAT, Nichols, Riconsciuto, and Spilotro every where they went. And it seems Goodman, May, and Braun were the ones trying to keep them out of jail. Goodman also had a good relationship with the Hanley father and son duo. I have read that their victims could have numbered in the hundreds. With all this intrigue around May and Goodman, how did Cassidy fit in? And why did he openly brag about killing people?

The second attachment is from a book published in 1984. It is all about techniques to disguise your self. And one section even deals with disguising your car. It was published by Paladin Press, the same people that publish Soldier of Fortune. When you ask yourself what capabilities do we assign earons, you might consider if his crimes were those of opportunity and crimes of passion, or if he actively planned his attacks, took steps to make his vehicles untraceable, mapped out his future attacks, wore disguises, and had a good idea of how to leave a crime scene so that he couldnt be traced. If you choose the latter, then I wonder if we arent underestimating his dedication and skill, instead of overestimating it and assigning luck LE mistakes to the equation. By the way, Cassidy had one of his books published in Soldier of Fortune too.

I have posted the third attachment before. This is the crime scene photo from a mob hit. As you can see the woman was tied up rope and murdered. I think this is contrary to what Kenji has said also. The mob does murder innocent people. 5 years previous the mob murdered her sister to influence the decision of her husband. They couldnt murder him at the time, they needed him to do something for them. So instead they sent message to him by way of murdering someone associated with him. Both murders were home invasions. In this instance the wife was murdered in the living room and the husband was murdered in the bedroom. And this was in the 1950's. The point of the first sister's murder wasnt a hit per se, it was designed to instill terror in the target. And the second murder was not done as a hit per se, it was a punishment. And it was a message to others.

I believe the Irvine Family had a valid reason for considering that the Harrington murders might have been a message to them.
