Hi Richard! welcome. Would you please post reference for the murder registry? Also majority of these can be ruled out as solved and many do not apply- if you can please include references for the solved murders and ruled out murders for the same period as well.
The point of this thread is to stimulate some reading & research on the subject not to do a knee-jerk dismissal. This folder is the "confirmed and possible victims of GSK" and this thread is about a potential victim. It seems like you have already decided the odds and moved on. I and others will continue to keep an open mind on this case as LE, the press, and web sleuths continue to gather info on JJD's personal connections and whereabouts during the period in question.
2. I can find no source that provides things like "solved vs. unsolved" by state. Some sources do provide more generalized information about the U.S. For example, in The Economist, one can read that "...more than 211,000 homicides committed since 1980 remain unsolved". www.economist.com/news/united-states/21656725-police-fail-make-arrest-more-third-nations-killings-getting-away
While many seem to reflexively try to link unsolved crimes to well-known perpetrators (eg. Zodiac, EARONS...), the fact remains that, absent a compelling link to a given person, it is extremely unlikely that the given person had anything to do with it.
1) "violent crimes" encompasses much more than murder and rape which is what we would be looking at JJD for. I see there is no category for "disappearance" and/or "suspected homicide," or is that lumped in together?
2) The figure of 211,000 homicides committed since 1980 that are estimated to remain unsolved is for the entire nation, do you know what is the estimated percentage of unsolved murder, rape and/or disappearance is for California?
There are some folks who do things "reflexively" on the board for sure. That said, the purpose of our thread is to ask questions about possible JJD links to Redding. Are you interested in doing some research into the case and getting back to us as well?
The information you provided is helpful to get a big picture of violent crime for sure. But the problem with using statistics to describe the activities of criminals like JJD is this: there simply aren't enough offenders to be able to make blanket MO predictions that elucidate their activities with any certainty. Despite bombastic violent crime claims made by politicians, prolific serial killers like JJD are a statistical minority. Absent piecing together his actual whereabouts in a timeline, no one can claim to be able to predict the likely hood of him committing Terri Lynn Ray's murder. And with that a question for you; what do you think about the bicycle connection?
