I just pulled up Shelby's book. He notes a few things:
1. He must have awoken to the EAR grabbing the shoelaces from "Bill's" (Bill is what Shelby calls the male in this incident) shoes. This I can somewhat believe, but usually the EAR came prepared. Unless this was an extremely last minute decision of his to strike, (but he had a mask?), I don't know why he'd risk taking laces from shoes with victims in the room. Especially two, one being a large male.
2. Neighbors called the cops due to Bill's yells.
3. Pita went absolutely wild when hunting a scent. They said it was a fresh scent, only minutes old. Same as what Crompton wrote.
4. Again like Crompton wrote in his book, Bill did get a look at him (masked), but also Bill underwent "hypnosis".... this is where the jacket comes into play... I am a huge skeptic, so I have to take that with a grain of salt.
5. HOWEVER, there was a man at the scene (fitting the description) wiping dew off his car. They took a saliva sample, and ruled this particular guy out because he was a secretor. -_-
Aside from neighbors hearing things, it never mentions them seeing anyone leave (nor Bill chasing after him). In fact, it makes no mention of how the EAR escaped. I have to agree, saund, there are just so many things that don't add up about this particular incident.
I can understand a newspaper getting things wrong (especially if they interviewed Bill themselves -- he may have wanted to spice up the story). I really don't know. It's bizarre. I wish we did have the police reports. I would really love to believe this incident happened and that someone had gotten a huge upper hand in the situation, but there are so many fishy things about it. It could be a victim of the lack of communication between victim, police jurisdictions, and the news sources.
