EAR Town Hall Meeting: Was the EAR/ONS/GSK there?

During the time of the EAR attacks in Sacramento, there were several town meetings held, to warn residents about EAR and discuss what can be done to stop him. At one of them, a man got up and said the police must not be telling the truth about the MO of these attacks, because no man would stand by and let his wife be raped, he certainly would not. Later, this man's home was attacked by the EAR, and his wife was raped, while the husband was bound. Police felt that EAR had attended this town hall meeting.

I was told the picture below is from that 1976 EAR town hall meeting, though someone else says it might be a different EAR town hall meeting, from November 1977. In any event, it does seem almost certain that EAR/ONS attended one or more of these meetings.

I thought any single male attending this meeting should be looked at. There is a single male, I think, sitting next to a couple.

The man on the left and the woman appear to be a couple as they are the same age and are sitting close to each other. The "Ski Jacket Man" is not sitting close to the woman and appears to be much younger, so I do think he is there as a single man, which is odd.

AweShucks questioned if this man has a camera around his neck?

Is he a reporter? Or police detective?

Does someone recognize him as a reporter or detective?

Could he possibly be the EAR/ONS, perhaps posing as a reporter? Several things stand out about this man.

He appears to be a single male in a meeting composed almost entirely of couples or lone females.

He is the only person wearing a winter jacket, bulky and heavy. Awe noted this. Could that be to conceal something? It does at quick glance make him look heavier than the EAR descriptions of 160 pounds, but he does appear to really weigh about 160 pounds.

He bears a clear similarity to the Maggiore and VR sketches. The hair, the part, the face structure, the nose.

EAR was always described as clean shaven and thin 160 pounds, so perhaps a beard and bulky jacket gave EAR the confidence to do what is a damn ballsy and creepy move, attending a town hall about him, and then targeting a speaker.

Its close; I agree with cerulean that the hair part matches but not the jawline. Although, I can kinda see the "pursed" lips in both...

In the Maggiore comp, is that supposed to be a mole/birthmark to the right of his (our right) eye?

Its interesting to see the Maggiore and VR comps that close; I'd never noticed how close they are.

With the exception of the two older men who looks like cops and who do not match the EAR description who are sitting in the front, almost every man there is part of a couple. This man stood out to me as a single male, right age and general description of VR/EAR, wearing the bulkiest jacket there.

Yes the jaw looks weird, I think it may be he was moving his head slightly at the time the picture was taken, which makes the jaw look weird, a bit of a blur/distortion. I do think he does look quite like both the Maggiore Killer sketch and the VR sketch. Enough to at least question "Who was this guy?" Maybe he is a reporter, but I at least thought the question should be raised. We know EAR was at one or more of these meetings.

That pretty blonde is in the row behind ski jacket man, I think.

Do we know for sure which town hall meeting the man-defending-his-wife incident took place?

I take it that the incident is not just some urban legend, built up over the years from rather mundane reality.

Akwilks, you have a great eye for detail, and good research skills, regardless of whether the guy in photo is perp.

Is it a certainty that there isn`t a female to the right of the man outlined in the blue rectangle in the top picture?

This is very interesting, and along with the guy I spotted helping the woman with the gun, the guy in the town hall meeting needs to be identified. The two different men look like two different composites, but that is okay, because EAR/ONS has to be lucky all the time, while the investigators have to be lucky just once.

I can't see what is off screen, but it looks to me like the man and woman in the blue rectangle are a couple, based on sitting close to each other and body language.  IMO the woman in the blue rectangle is NOT associated with ski jacket man, again based on where they are sitting and body language.

IMO the town hall meeting incident would indicate that the GSK had some sort of direct connection to one of the affected neighborhoods. If he didn't live in or near the attack clusters then what reason could he give for being at the meeting if asked? Also I don't think he would of gone there by himself. I think he probably went there with a friend or family member. To show up alone would invite scrutiny. It would also seem to indicate that he had no criminal record because I don't feel he would of gone there if he had something to hide.

Interesting.  So this was the attack that happened on 5/17/1977?  The Italian family? I would guess that they were Catholic?  The second victim, the daughter of a doctor, that was attacked in this neighborhood on July 17th 1976 was Catholic and her parents were out of town on a church retreat for three days.  So it is likely that they attended the same church.  A community within the community.  Could it be that the EAR knew of some of his victims through church?

So most likely Catholic right?  Wasn't there a doctor in the same neighborhood whose teenage daughter was attacked?  Weren't they Catholic as well?  And weren't they (the doctor and his wife) away on a church retreat?

I have always been curious as to how EAR learned where those victim`s lived. So if they lived across the street from the school where the event was held, then all he had to do was follow them out the door and watch them briefly instead of any prolonged stalking which I think would have aroused suspicion in anyone coming from such a meeting as they would be on high alert.

That clears up that issue for me. Thank you.

I think this meeting is one of the best pieces of evidence that may help solve the case. Many witnesses who were in the same building but didn`t realize it was him at the time.

I am interested in the mole or freckle on his left side in the sketch. What are the odds of the hair, the face, and the mole on someone in attendance at the town hall meeting? I would really like to see a a close up of his face in the photo. If the mole is present on his face in the exact location, we may REALLY have a photo of the suspect.
