And was a guy who, on the surface, no one would have suspected.  This was a guy who was the head of Canada's largest Air Force base and had flown dignitaries all over Canada.  He was eventually tripped up by the most Canadian of things: tire treads in the snow.

I guess we can take from that story, that offenders like that could almost be anyone.

Another interesting thing is that there are so many similarities in these peoples psychology. Both BTK and Williams were drawn towards authority in their working life, but it could be without meaning in our case.

I have a feeling there could be clues in analyzing as many home invading serial rapists/killers as possible. There is clearly a psychological connection in these peoples fetiches... I just have to figure out how to go about it.

After all these years, I still can't really make up my mind if I think EAR was an upper crust Russell Williams type offender, a street punk Dennis Rabbitt/Joe Thompson type, or an anonymous, middle class nobody like Dennis Rader.

Once I've read the book, I'll post about it/do a mini-review. It'll take a short while to get here though; bet it's a really interesting read and if that article you posted is anything to go by, it's bound to be. I've had chance to digest the information today and it really is making me think hard about EARONS, and the varying theories about him. I genuinely haven't a clue what to think about it all. I don't want to get into any one single mindset as it'll probably be wrong and I want to be as open-minded about it as possible.

One thing that Dennis Rabbitt article brings across, at least to me, is that he isn't some mysterious offending machine; EARONS, still being unidentified, seems mysterious as we know next to nothing about him other than the basics, from victim descriptions, and his DNA. That's about it, so it would be easy to view him (not that I did) as some phantom-like super-fiend; part raping/murdering monstrosity, part Spring-heeled Jack, but looking at Dennis Rabbitt, seeing him talk about his experiences, mistakes and what he was feeling, I do wonder what was/is going on in the mind of EARONS. He wasn't a robot, he must have got scared/nervous at times, had second thoughts, changed his mind at the last moment, and so on.

This quote from that article is one I found thought-provoking too:

The rape in Kirkwood, where he'd been arrested for trespassing after police found him drunk and asleep beneath a woman's window. The psychiatrist who evaluated him at age 14 or so, after he was caught peeping in University City, and pronounced him normal.

He made mistakes, Rabbitt, and clues were there. I imagine there's a whole host of unconnected clues and mistakes with EARONS, just waiting to be connected that sadly were earlier missed. Talking of socks, recall one mentioned in an EAR attack too. Well, one of the break-ins; from Quester's site, #5:

"The subjective sense that someone had gone through her drawers was underscored when both she and the deputy noticed a blue sock on the backyard lawn. Victim recognized it as belonging to her husband.

Responding Officer (a deputy sheriff) surmised that kid/s had broken into the house and stolen inconsequential jewelry, using the sock as a glove so as not to leave fingerprints. Since nothing of value was taken, and there had been no vandalizing, this seemed reasonable."

I thought it strange as surely he'd have had gloves with him during the prowling/break-ins, unless he didn't want to risk walking around with gloves on his person on a hot day in case he was stopped/searched?

I bet that was a bit of a shock for him and that he got the hell out of there sharpish! Due to the sheer amount of prowling and searching for victims, I can't imagine EARONS getting into that kind of scenario, but I do wonder if anything similar happened, unexpected occurrences, something strange happening that he really hadn't bargained for, that maybe went unnoticed and unreported.

BTK and Williams both cross-dressed in their victims' underwear. Not sure if they would today consider themselves transgendered, but that's one commonality between those two. Also, there is a high incidence of co-morbidity when it comes to mental illness and the transgendered, so that's certainly something to look at. 

EAR/ONS has been described as having gone through women's underwear drawers, even poking a hole in the crotch of a pair of pantyhose at one scene, and one victim said a pair of her panties had been returned out of place after EAR/ONS had broken into her home. The VR is said to have fetishized women's underwear.

We know EAR stole a bike in Redding but we are not quite sure what he was doing in Redding unless that is where he sold the valuables he stole from all of the houses in Sac and surrounding areas.

You are correct.  Even that was a leap.  Someone suspected of being EAR was chased and abandoned a bike.  Subsequently a bike that had been stolen from Redding was found nearby.  I think I can say that much without controversy.
