One of the posters mentioned an industrial/commercial project (at the airport?) concurrent with the shopping center in Goleta. Any info on who the developer was?
What put me over the top was the handwritten letter. Being from Florida a man was caught through a handwriting sample which a neighbor was able to identify. He recently did work on her house and invoiced her. But that was about 2 years after the murders occurred. Yes in Florida where they cant even accurately call a presidential election!! The detectives on the case brilliantly posted billboards around town asking "Do you recognize this handwriting". Now in California if investigators did the same thing as opposed to waiting over 30 years to release the evidence perhaps his school teacher from the letter might have said "You know this kinda looks like..... ". Where was this letter for 30 years? Just as ONS needs to be held accountable so does some in LE sorry. They do a lot of good things but this is just a travesty! What possible motive would there be to keep the contents of that letter private? If they think they did the right thing ask the detectives on the Oba Chandler case if they are happy they released the contents of a note where he wrote directions to a boat dock to meet the three victims where they were murdered in the ocean. They linked him to that crime only by the letter. Releasing evidence over 30 years later is obviously less relevant. I think you all will concur. The question is where was it and why did it take MM's article to bring it to the surface after over 30 years!
IMO the handwriting samples in this case should be on a official task force website along with other relavent information so that average citizens can find it. The SCSD actually has a cold case section and this case is not even mentioned there. If you compare this case to other similar cases it is clear that LE is not doing everything they can to solve this case. Forget billboards, how much does it cost to set up a website?
