I don't want to derail or speak ill of the dead but McNamara isn't universally beloved. She was an author with an agenda. Her agenda, to write a book and receive the accolades associated with authorship, and the press she generated for the investigation through being involved both served the same ends. She wasn't involved through the goodness of her heart alone. Her involvement was self-serving. She took advantage of the access she was given and intended to exploit it to her advantage.
Do we know the entire contents of her book? Hardly. Was she keeping things back and not sharing them because doing so would garner publicity for and help her book sales? Highly likely.
I think people grew fond of her because she seemed accessible at certain points and she was a known commodity who was married to a popular comedian.
But she was still just an author who was writing a book. She traded on her notoriety and her unprecedented access to exploit the situation to her advantage. Her first contribution to the case was an attempt to change EAR's handle to GSK which served to further confuse the situation.
She seemed nice. It's very sad that she passed. I look forward to reading her book.
