EARONS is a 'kid' on a bike. A teenager. Someone who has just finished high school maybe (or even younger still).
15-20 (do not rule out even younger).
The only sighting of EARONS face is ... a kid on a bike (except for the open mask witness who says he is a kid). In the US teenagers can also drive young.

EARONS had to know the names of his victims and neighbours to cold call them to figure out their routines. Once he had their names the phone directory would get their number.
Checking mailboxes would do this.
Delivering mail would also do it.
Delivering papers would also do it.
EARONS tossed shoelaces and other items to recover later. Just like a paperboy tossing papers onto a lawn.
DOGS - Dogs chase paperboys. Open a gate and let the dog chase you away and hopefully get lost so no dog will be there when you invade. Paperboys can explain the dog connections.

They could very well have substituted for EARONS or he them. He may have even done these in his youth and stopped. It is just a convenient explanation for the data he needed for cold calling back in the 70s.

Some people asked how he could deliver all his papers if he was spending so long in people's house. We don't know he spent the entire time in their house. He often went away for ages and came back later. He would have the occupants of the house subdued and could go outside all he wanted. He would learn if the coast is clear easily. Drop off more papers. Have a dog accidentally follow you back.
Paperboys were sometimes substituted. This can explain changes to where they made deliveries and who made them.
Paper packages often involve knotting and string.
EARONS may also have been a paperboy prior to these events. Which may explain how his 'recon' is back-dated to his experience as a paperboy and turning up to a property where the owners are different and not how he remembered it.
EARONS may have stalked out new buildings during their construction, learning how to break into one and then have access to all buildings based on the same model at a future date.

EARONS pretends to act like he is a junkie but the act, according to witnesses, is totally like someone doesn't have a clue what it means to be a junkie. It was bad acting.
Also consider the reason EARONS had a small sexual organ, is because he is young.
Note: Before you quickly respond to 'joke' at the paperboy idea, read the posts in this thread in which there is precedence for this. Being a paperboy doesn't make you immune from being a rapist/murderer. Like Ted Bundy, who while 15 and working as a paperboy, likely murdered another younger kid.
