Hi G, thanks for responding.  My reasons are twofold:

1)  From my admittedly limited knowledge, it appears that in the vast majority of rapes and/or burglaries EAR took only items that I would speculate had some interest to him as either trinkets/mementos or accomplished some ulterior motive that we may not fully understand. The ulterior motive may differ by crime or just be the random chaotic workings of a disturbed mind, but it certainly appears that many opportunities to remove items of significant value were passed over in favor of taking small personal goods.  If you subscribe to the framing theory maybe you read more into this aspect.

2)  Given his proclivity to steal small items of personal sentimental value, this instance of taking $4k worth of goods stands out to me as an outlier.  I think the consensus is that he may have been "shopping" to fill a new home, but I wonder if this was an opportunity for quick cash because of some unforeseen circumstance in life. My main interest is in the logistics.  If he brought a rape kit/bag to every scene as the new paint evidence may suggest, I can understand how he removed small trinkets, coins, stamp books, etc.  How did he transport $4k in camera equipment, dishes, and other items?  This particular theft would have been bulky and difficult to carry.  I can't believe he's running down a trail with a duffel bag full of dishes.  If, as I believe, this "score" was to be turned into cash, did LE investigate pawn shops or other establishments for these recognizable objects?

ANSWER to your question: in Visalia dishes, food, suitcase were taken from one of the last ransackings...if VR is GSK!

evi, you are very welcome! I too, find this an interesting theft. EAR took unusual things but always of very low value. I would never question a victim's integrity or honesty but it is a different level of theft. Although, what he took were high valued items. Fine china, shoot, I need to look that may of been another #. Salt and pepper shakers, crystal. It often apppeared as though he was setting up different residences. But 50 of them. REALLY??? If I can be of any help please let me know. I may not be around much as I plan on spending a good deal of time with my family for the holdidays. But I will sneak in and out and ck for messages.

I believe it is possible he stashed his take. I also think EAR could of been on a Roof, in a tree, or upwards somewhere watching as the investigations went on. It is said that he was on Detective Shelby's roof. His son saw him and it scared the ... out of him for many years I am told. EAR was bold in some ways and in some not so. But I would not put it past him to have been right in the thick of things. g

A pawn shop owner I know told me his rough rule of thumb in buying or lending on an item is 20% of value. Higher perhaps for good jewelry or guns. And he assumes anything pawned is going to windup unclaimed.

I've searched through many pawnshops for certain things; I don't ever recall seeing a set of dishes.

Being close to or observing the investigation and more important getting away with being there fits perfectly with my thinking that a big part of EAR's whatever was an anti social component in his personality. Like the arsonist who hangs around to watch the firemen try to reverse the effects of his arson.

I forget who posted it but I recently watched an arsonist who was recording his works (a fire) an he spoke as if he were engaged in a sexual act. It truly was one of the most bizarre things I have seen. He kept repeating "look at this" it was eery ans very sick! I do wonder what has become of the trophies?

I believe it aired on an episode of Unsolved Mysteries which brought in tips that led to the identification and arrest of 2 suspects.
