I don't have a strong opinion on why he was calling out "Mommy" but what does ring true to me is the crying and the whining that he doesn't want to do this anymore.
Most men don't want to cry, but consider it weak and embarrassing, not strong, not masculine, they fight it. He opens himself up to ridicule.
Having a weak father and a domineering mother is in the FDLE profile. Is he taking after his father? Is he mocking his father? Is he angry at his father for not stepping up and protecting him from his mother? Is he rebelling against his hated mother but still under her thumb? Was he sexually abused by his mother? Some of these serial killers were.
Another thing that comes to mind is a true crime show that was about the "Weepy Voiced Killer", Paul Stephani, who would call police, asking someone to stop him, saying things like he's not going to go to heaven, etc. Of course I don't know if he was really upset or if it was a game. His whining sounded pathetic and convincing to me. I believe you can google it to hear for yourself.
If I had to vote, it would be 50/50 as to the crying being real and not wanting to do it anymore, versus Valentina's take on it, which I really like.
