Holes arbitrarily cherry picks to suit his purpose. What is and is not a valid indicator of misdirection.
The map and handwritten pages do not seem to belong to the same individual. His assertion that EAR tore them from the notebook and folded them together merely to discard later is a bit odd and risky for the seasoned, calculating, and educated perpetrator Holes envisions. Seems like a mistake EAR wouldn't make. If he were planning on using a decade or older notepad from his own middle school days to take notes for upcoming assaults, wouldn't he have removed these pages in the safety of his home? What middle school kid writes a report about general Custer and doesn't put his name on it? Why wasn't it turned in? It's sloppy, defies logic, and screams of misdirection.
The only reasonable explanation I can conjure for EAR wanting to retain those pages is due to the fact that he filched the notebook from his own kid and wanted to retain them either for posterity or to give back to their rightful owner who may have needed them.
So EAR is careful except for when it comes to these dropped papers and by extension the notebook? EAR is constantly changing his outfit, plants shoestring and burglar/rape kits in areas he will need them, and exercises extreme caution in all other facets, but he won't purchase a new spiral notebook?
If the narrative posed by Holes is true, EAR used the notebook in middle school to journal, pulled it out 10 years later to draw the map in a collaborative professional setting with at least one other person, then ignored the notebook until he needed it at a later date(possibly even years later) to take notes on his next rape victim. Ridiculous.
Even more on the notebook. If genuine, the writings found provide a window into EAR's intellect. He was dumb. Functional illiterate level stupidity. This is the same individual that Holes calls well educated and successful. How about that. I don't think the individual who authored those papers would have made it past the 9th or 10th grade.
There has been discussion in the past that some of the symbols used in the map were industry related. I honestly don't see how else one would draw 99% of the things found on the map. Crude squares and rectangles. Not necessarily confidence inspiring evidence of someone with knowledge of architecture.
Finally, would a professional who is putting together a sales pitch not use a more appropriate medium? At least graph paper or something for scale?
I have a lot more to say about it but that'll do for now.
I can't. Ridgeway was highly organized and had to learn the ins and outs of the street subculture before he could begin murdering prostitutes? What? All he needed was five bucks and his truck.
There is just so much wrong with many of his conclusions. He is probably only coming forward with this now because the information will be included MM's book. Also, if this is important information, why is he only disseminating it to a couple of individuals. Why isn't it in a press release to every media outlet in the country?
Holes seems miffed that he wasn't featured more prominently on 48 hours. The case takes a back seat to his own ego.
I have serious doubts that the map is directly linked to ear. But I think it is a worthwhile avenue to follow. If it is the only avenue of investigation followed then I would be seriously annoyed, but as a hypothesis from someone linked to the case then I am impressed by it. We have often suspected ear had links to either construction, real estate, the medical field or motor trade. This piece of evidence suggests real estate. It would be foolish to dismiss it, just as it would be foolish to dismiss any other possibility.
