I have not researched this as much as a lot of you so be kind. These are my thoughts prior to digging in deeply so I call them my untainted thoughts. Sometimes we become overcome with information and begin to get the paralysis by analysis because we are so immersed we can't think objectively. I want to record my initial observations about the case to preserve my "gut feeling" about what little I do know.
This guy is operating on a different level than most people. He is very intelligent almost to the extent of genius or prodigy. The reason I say this is due to his theorized age when this all began. He moves in such a way like he has this rehearsed and mapped meticulously in his head as he moves in and out of sight. For someone to act so proficiently it seems logical that they have been taught or have received training of some sort.
Someone from a middle class background as he is suspected of being I don't feel would have learned how to break into homes at such an age. I think this fits more with a lower socioeconomic background or someone being from the streets that would pick this up as a matter of necessity.
I feel that he may have been a young returning soldier from Vietnam with a severe case of post traumatic stress disorder where he may have been required to kill and was betrayed in some way by mother, girlfriend, etc. back home while he was off fighting the war. The trauma from the war may have caused him to back away from society becoming very antisocial and awkward in normal social interactions. This experience could have fractured his reality in some way.
In some serial murder cases the offender often mistreats animals at a young age. There were instances where authorities thought he killed some dogs and stabbed others. This may be something that a young classmate might remember. I know that they tracked down yearbooks from some of the local schools thinking he was from the area and would likely be in one of the yearbooks. Question as many people from the schools that may have seen or heard about someone that may have hurt a family pet or someone else's family pet, etc., etc. Maybe there was a time that someone found their own pet dead on their doorstep or mutilated in some way.
Because of his personality/mental problems he cannot succeed in a career so he is forced to take remedial jobs to survive. I don't see him being successful and therefore wouldn't have much means which could explain his need to eat. He is getting his meal when he can wherever he can. However, he is stealing money from the victims so that may not play out.
But because of his shrewd intelligence he does not seem to others to be of a lower class and can pass for a resident of the area.
What about the dentist that put up the reward money? Is this a ruse?
Hiding in the open in plain sight.
Ted K's intelligence makes me think of him (EAR) at a young age and what that kind of intelligence would do for a young man with super sexual/control tendencies.
He's obsessive compulsive and cannot stop himself from committing these crimes. Signs of this I feel would be visible. No self control.
He knows where to be, is there a police radio being used. He knows a bit about police procedures.
He knows how to tie knots, possible navy, boy scout? Why this knot? It works well but uncommon to most. Why does he know it? What does he need to tie up on a regular basis to become so familiar and proficient with this knot? This knot is referred to as a paratrooper's knot and of course the diamond knot. Sling loading would be done very frequently in Vietnam with the helicopters which may require knot tying. Air assault qualified soldiers are required to learn some knot tying and use a similar type of knot when repelling from helicopters and are very physically fit and can run forever. He has to be former military. A lot of the supplies that he has either left behind or what victims have described could be Army issued or purchased from Army surplus stores. What about the draft? Could records of draftees from the areas be compiled? This can be cross referenced with the list of suspects, neighborhood residents (Census records), yearbooks. This may turn up new suspects or line up with suspects we already know. Going with the military theory he sounds to me like an Army or Marine Recon or air assault qualified soldier or has had this training. You would learn stealth, knife skills, possibly lock picking or forced entry tactics, how to use a firearm, knot tying, etc. etc. Using bindings when interrogating prisoners of war would be common. We used zip ties on a fairly regular basis but these were probably not available during Vietnam so they tied knots and used whatever they had like shoelaces.
Things I question:
Are we certain we have his blood or semen? There have been a few suspects that were so dead on but were released because of non-matching blood type or possibly no DNA match. He is a master of deception and therefore seems logical he could have planted someone else's blood. Semen would be harder to plant but possible I suppose.
These are my ramblings. My hope is that it make someone question what they know or may trigger a thought of your own. Sometimes the best answers spring out of a stream rambling thoughts. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks for reading this far.
