Good theory. Obviously the hours vary depending on the company, I reckon he would be working at a small site which would never require more then one or two guards on site at the time. If it's 12 hour shifts four days on four days off alternating between day and night shifts, that would give him a schedule to explore and stalk whilst a lot of other people are going about their daily business.
I think the site would be a place where you would guard a site and it's possessions, not a warehouse or factory with nightshift workers. If it's a quiet place in area with a low crime rate, a lot of time would be spend sat in an office watching TV, reading magazines and patrolling the site. I don't think there would be CCTV available, apart from the event of an emergency you would have knowledge if the facilities manager or an engineer might be coming in to fix something out of regular hours. The log book would be the only proof someone was on site at the time, if he wanted to disappear for a couple of hours he could quite easily lock up and go out, then write in the log book that he patrolled the site every hour and saw nothing out of place.
A lot of attacks happened on a Saturday morning but you can't ignore the one's which happened in the week if his days off were on a rotational basis it would make sense, if his not working a full time job with shifts, I could see him either doing seasonal work or earning money through crime.
