If I had the money to do that I would host a con about true crime in Sacramento or LA with this case taking the center stage in a heart beat. The work as little as it was at Crime Con itself was the coolest and most engaging thing I've ever done in my entire life.As long as the news crews and media know what we are doing , that's all that matters . I would focus on this case and this case only !
People at CC came from all around and I mean everywhere because the event was interactive and it was like a vacation surrounding the very thing that inspires them. Nancy Grace was there, they got to meet their favorite podcasters, they had murder mystery night, activities, there was interviewers everywhere and I went solely for our case. I made that point very clear to every single person I encountered, being passive about every aspect to the point that I must admit I came off as stand-offish to say the least. That was until one woman I spoke with at the bar touched my very soul about how she invested so much to be allowed to roam the halls handing out fliers to find her missing daughter. This very instance taught me about the mistake I was making being closed minded when it comes to cold cases being solved. It humbled me to the point I started interacting with several other tables with folks trying to get their stories heard and generate some buzz about their cases, no matter how small it was. It made me think of where people like Jane, Debbi and Shelly were ten years ago trying to initiate interest as opposed to today.
Let's step back a moment. Take all of that and put it on the back burner and lets talk about our event. The case that drives us every single day. We make our EARONS convention in Sacramento or another area affected by ONS, wherever allows us the space and make him the main event to the point that whoever comes through the doors for whatever reason will have it implanted into their memories for good. Jane, Shelly, Debbi and any other of the extremely brave survivors can have free space, their own panels of course, etc. Each one of the murder victims from Brian and Katie to Janelle will have memorial sections where people can approach them and learn all about those amazing lives that he so selfishly removed from the world. We have activities like a re-creation of one of the crime scenes of the NorCal attacks as it appeared just before LE arrives to give the sleuths an idea about what happened. While we're at it, we can have an EARONS punching bag. A booth where you can walk in and hear the phone calls. The hand written letters on the walls. A section where people are allowed to view the composite sketches as a whole. Jack Grey, Anne Penn, Mr Crompton, Mr Shelby can have their own sections to sell their books of course and if not, we can have a book company sell their items as long as they highlight case related merchandise. Fliers will be readily available everywhere for people to pick up. Things that people can interact with. This is what people love about any sort of convention I believe and at CC, these individuals were extremely serious, enlightened and most importantly, engaged.
Now allow me to take it back a step to allowing this event to give others a chance to have their cases heard. If someone with a case wants to have their story heard, we charge them a reasonable fee to have a space and their time as a panel. This sort of thing will be what attracts the media as it is quite honestly a positive gesture in light of the tragic events that precede it. Media will already be all over it and will only grow the podcasters, oh muh lorrrrrd at the podcasters! Those guys can carry a message from the stars and we'd hear about it! You take this angle and it will not only help generate funds for the event as a whole but we're actually doing a very positive, very kind, very inspiring thing to help cases like our own, which at one time was a generally unheard of thing compared to how attractive of a case as it is today.
Overall, my point is that allowing cases that have been otherwise ignored in lieu of larger profiled cases a chance to see some light would be beneficial for many reasons and that not so long ago, our case was nowhere near as engaged as it is today. Every missing person and victim deserves justice.
Just an idea, sorry for the rambles
