I lived in Citrus Heights from 1977-1979 and being in elementary school (Arlington ES) at the time was probably sheltered from the EAR news and events, but recall a general sense of insecurity among everyone, particularly our mom when dad, who was military, would leave town on TDY. We would sleep in the living room. Most of the early EAR attacks were within 10 miles (or less in some cases) from where we lived.
I also recall our mother telling us that the military was warning spouses to be careful if dropping off their husbands at airports that they weren't followed home from the airport.
Then there was the freaky story I shared a few months ago where the neighbor thought I was EAR right when we moved in, and the cops descended on our house, including a helicopter. (Ronnie if your out there, good on you for calling that in - many people saw/heard suspicious activity and did not)..
Had a couple other strange events happen that I previously shared, one a guy that came to our house and tried to talk his way in under some bogus excuse, and the time we walked to 7-11 on Auburn blvd and a group of teens tried to coax us into their backyard.
Aside from EAR there were a host of killers/criminals stalking Sacramento (Gallego, Chase, etc). It's amazing in hindsight we managed to survive childhood there, which hyperbole aside, created a place we were growing up as kids and did NOT feel safe there.
Our mother eventually told our father to get us the hell out of there or she was going to divorce him and leave. It was a scary time.
