I'm new to the board and have only been reading about EAR/ONS for about a year now, but I thought I'd relate my story and what made me interested in this case in the first place.
I worked with a guy that I strongly believe murdered a local woman, but it was my understanding that the police didn't have any evidence to prove it was him so he was never even arrested, let alone charged or convicted. Since I also have a hunch that he may even be EAR/ONS, I'm going to leave many of the specifics vague so that if he is EAR/ONS and is in fact on this board, he hopefully can't tie this post back to me.
It was about 20 years ago, I was working in the type of job where we were sent in 2 - 4 man crews to customers' homes. There was this new guy, who had just moved back from northern California (I live in the south), that I'll call Bill. Bill didn't get along with the other guys, so more often than not our boss paired us together. Since he and I shard some common interests and I can pretty much get along with anyone really, we did bs quite a bit over time.
Soon enough, it became clear that Bill was very strange, although I will say he was extremely intelligent. At times he could be personable, especially when dealing with clients, but other times you could tell he was just not right in the head, so I tried not to discuss much about my life or family in detail. He didn't talk a lot about his time in California and was always evasive when it came to details, but like I said we did talk a lot so I got to know him fairly well. He was also very, very methodical about everything, even what he wore. As a matter of fact, he wore the same exact long sleeved shirt, pants, shoes, and baseball hat every day. He also had long hair and wore glasses - every day.
After about 2 years of working with Bill, a local woman went missing. She worked in a job that had her closing a business late at night and when she never got home, her family called her boss. The boss then called police and they found her car still there, but no sign of her and her purse and its contents were skattered around the parking lot, so it was pretty suspicious.
Then the police sketch of who she was last seen with was released and it looked exactly like Bill. And when I say exactly, I mean his face, same hat, same shirt, glasses, etc. When I get to work the next day, Bill shows up and has completely changed his appearance. His hair was buzzed real short, he stopped wearing glasses and switched to contacts, was wearing a tshirt, no hat, different pants, etc. This guy wore the same thing to work for about 2 years and then all of a sudden, he completely switched everything. He also had a different car because he said that his had been stolen. Since it's been so long, I get a little hazy on the details at this point, plus I was absent from work for a few weeks around that time, but I remember hearing that one of the guys at work reported him to the police and some detectives even came to a job site to ask him questions. However to my knowledge that was as far as it went. I remember his vehicle was found a few weeks later in the middle of nowhere about 15 miles away. It had been torched and was completely burned.
About a year or two later, they found the missing woman's skull and torso along a major interstate about 20 miles away. And then some time after that, they found more of her bones not far from there, but never did find all of her as far as I know. Bill only stuck around for a couple months after she disappeared; he got fired and then moved to a small town about 45 minutes away. That was the last I ever heard of him, although to this day I still think about this and tell the story from time to time.
I always suspected he was hiding something from his past even before that woman went missing... so for years, I thought that he might have been a serial killer or something in California but never really gave it too much thought. Then a couple years ago (last year?) I saw the story in the news about the FBI asking for help identifying EAR/ONS, and since then I've been doing a lot of reading on EAR/ONS and have had a nagging suspicion that it could have been him. He was in the military, fits the age range, looks like some of the police sketches, was always very fit and athletic, extremely intelligent, lived in CA in the 70s to early 90s, was crazy/creepy, etc. But in reality, I've done no research whatsoever and it really is just a hunch. It is kinda crazy to think about though...
