Oh wow - I remember when John Muir was one building! Right, it was the Northgate area - Cheyenne at Walnut Ave. Back in 1979 there were orange orchards directly behind the homes on Cheyenne Dr. (the old Stevenson Ranch). The Stevenson's property went from directly behind the homes on Cheyenne up to the canal line. From the other side of the canal until almost Snyder Lane there was another ranch house with a lot of open space where the owners kept horses. It wasn't far to walk or ride bikes down to "the stores" (that's what we called Alpha Beta shopping center). We'd go down Quiet Place and cut over to San Carlos. All the kids went to Thrifty to buy candy (during the daytime). At night that San Miguel neighborhood was another story! Anyway, I don't think people really walked the canal trail back then - but we'd catch crawdads in the water. If I remember correctly, there might have been a dirt path which could get pretty narrow at some areas. There was a lot of tall mustard grass. Very different now!
I've lived in Central Costa Costa in one town or another since 1968 so...yeah...there's been some changes. Living near John Muir you get used to the medical helicopters at all hours and it sometimes taking longer to get down Ygnacio to the freeway in the morning than it does to get to Danville.
