This is good news. Sometimes I wonder if the murder of Manuela Witthuhn holds the identity of this sadistic murderer? From what I've read online, her killer seemed to care about her, in some strange way. That is supposedly why her poor husband fell under suspicion for so long.
It seems that with so much current coverage of this case, it's bound to lead to this monster's identity.
I didn't know he cared for her? How so?
David was Manuela's husband and was in the hospital on the night of his wife's murder. Yet, the police viewed him as a suspect until DNA finally cleared him decades later. David Witthuhn is now dead. His friend has been kind enough to post here at times.
Here is one post in particular where the friend describes how Manuela's body was found, and how the police viewed the actions of her killer:

It is Manuela.
The terror had to be horrific! She would have fought for her life, she wouldn't have gone easily. I believe that the violence may have been due to her will to live and fight. She would not have let a moment go by if she thought she could free herself or inflicted pain in the *&#@$* that murdered her. I believe in Manuela's case that he felt proud of his deeds, he spent time with her and in the home after her death. He took care with her after death and made it look like she was sleeping. this is why they thought it was David. The thought was it had to be someone that knew and loved her. He used the bath towels to clean up and put them in the hamper. This is not the actions of a murderer who flees the scene in an escape after his attack. I think he had some kind of sick pride of his conquest and pride in how she tried to survive. There is more evidence that is not out in the public that could help identify the POI. I also think that this opened a door for him to change his MO with David not at home. Something about this kill changed him, good or bad, you can ponder that. We will never know exactly what happened in the house that night or the rage, fear, terror Manuela experienced and the thoughts of EAR/ON before or after but I am quite sure that his encounter with Manuela made him think twice. She did have a premonition of an early death and she talked to David about it and there were many books at the house that were about life after death but she was not ready to go, she would have fought violently to stay.
I have been away from the board for a while. Dragging up the details takes me back in time and I can only take so much at a time. I thank each and every one of you for continuing the fight to keep these cases open and in the public eye. David gave it all he had. Thanks for carrying on. I will try to be more present.
We look so hard we can't see what is in front of us.
