This could have been any burglar. Not every burglar in RC was EAR.
Calling to see if victims are home isn't unique. Neither is trying to come through a sliding door.
Maybe. Or was watching from a car and drove to a payphone to make the call. Rancho Cordova had pay phones back then, right?
Doesn't say what drove the suspect off.
Yes, calling homes to see if people are home before a burglary is seemingly common practice. However, when someone answers and the guy still goes through with the plan regardless, then there is a bit more to it. I wonder if this could have been another recon mission from EAR. Most of his attacks were late evening early mornibg, but his creeping around and feeling out of situations (recon) was done at all times of the day, correct? Strange sightings of meter readers without clipboards come to mind. I'm on board with this being him, but there was no descripton if the guy and not a lot is know about this incident. It is interesting though.
There's nothing in this report that says EAR. Way too generic an attack. And the guy left for whatever reason. Mission aborted. Like he couldn't get inside or he heard her calling her mother. I think if EAR had wanted this girl, he would have struck at night, parents or no parents, and operated much more quietly.
And I tend to think EAR got the hell out of Rancho Cordova after the Maggiore's. Too much heat. So I don't see this guy coming back to RC to make such a bungling move. I tend to think he would have been a hell of a lot more competent.
Remember, many of you folks seem to think this guy was some kind of admirable criminal supergenius. Well, this aborted lame attack was not an EAR supergenius move, if it was him. Not in my mind.
