Excitement's Crave
Part One of Two ( part 2 is Airplanes, Constellations and the Military)
The poem is both a face value poem and has numeric code references which indicate responsibility for the Visalia crimes, more specifically the murder of Claude Snelling and the shootout with Bill McGowan.
How do I know this?
The paper on which the poem itself is typed on is a clue. Sure it’s a common paper but it’s the name itself that is the clue.
Visalia= Vidalia= Onionskin
There are 3 typical uses for this paper: To create duplicates while typing (on the stolen Royal typewriter) Used for making “in betweens” for cell animation movement and for kites and paper planes.
There may be more to these other uses that are intentional/potential clues, but I do not know what they are at this time.
The title is another clue. The title is awkward: Excitement’s Crave, I believe this to be intentional. An indication of this is that the rest of the poem rhymes and has flow with the exceptions of both the title and the last line of the poem, they both are flipped around to be awkward and in the case of the last line NOT rhyme.
What is he trying to do here? I believe he wants certain letters next to each other, in the title, specifically-S and C. As will be shown in the rest of the deconstruction, I believe he is indicating Claude Snelling.
Also, if you flip the words to Crave’s Excitement you get the word SEX in the middle which I believe lets us know, if we didn’t already, that he craves sex and excitement.
Most of the poem is in trochaic octameter which is 8 syllables per line, that’s been noted before.
This is not a commonly used style but it was famously used by Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven and Shakespeare, etc,. (The Raven poem becomes a link to Janelle Cruz and her poem “Bird with a Broken Wing” years later.)
I believe his use of the trochaic octameter is because it uses 8’s. I believe his use of 8’s is a reference to the 88 constellations, as yet another reference to astronomy. The others being his “acting out” of Orion The Hunter constellation in dressing up with the belt, “sword” and bull tattoo (as witnessed by a little girl, which references Taurus) and use of a club to bludgeon, with the addition of him actually bringing a dog to an attack hence the dog prints, Canus Major. Then we have the Lepus constellation, the rabbit, which is Thumper, the Maggiore’s dog which is actually 2 in 1. It’s a little dog, Canus minor with a rabbit (Lepus) name.
At the bottom of the poem, the last 3 lines, it changes to a different style- called El Diamante which means Diamond. Typically this style of poem has 7 lines but I believe to suit his needs he used only the first 3. (He seems to like this number, a lot, but that’s another thread.)
The diamond style is a reference to The Crown Jewel of the San Joaquin Valley otherwise known as Visalia.
The last 3 lines have the following syllables per line 7, 5, and 9.
I believe this is meant to indicate 75-9. Just like in the title its flipped so if we flip it around it becomes 9-75 or September 1975 the month and year Claude Snelling was murdered.
He doubles down on his message by making sure the poem is received on 12-12-1977 which is exactly 2 years and 2 days after the shooting of Bill McGowan in Visalia, the date of the shooting being:
12-10-1975
12+10=22
He is celebrating an anniversary.
In addition, if you take all of the first letters at the beginning of each sentence of the poem, you can make OUTLAW, SOS, JJ, and TACTIC with only two sets of double A’s left over. It is very interesting that those same references to JJ=Jesse James and SOS=Son of Sam are also found within the face value poem. I’m working on the double AA’s I have some ideas but am not ready to post just yet.
There is likely more here but that is all I have for now.
