Perhaps framing people wasn't his forte`, IDK, but think knowing someone in the know theory (cover up) makes more sense of the two. I have entertained ONS was either groomed or sexually abused by someone repeatedly. Maybe he was acting out to the nth degree trying to convince himself he could enjoy a woman's sexual company, but I usually come back to he was just a twisted MF. 

Sure, there are better ways to frame someone, but why bring a distinct dog rather than any other dog? One good reason could be to lead/mislead LE back to the owner(s) of the dog, which is what it eventually did after LE spent years looking for who owned the dog.

LE have said that at some point in the Sanchez/Domingo murders, that Greg was on his knees. On his knees in a compromising position like Dr. Offerman was? Did it indicate anything sexual in Greg's murder? We don't know and it may be some of the holdback info. Cheri Domingo was not raped and neither was Debra Manning according to LE. They are the only alleged ONS murders where the female victims were not raped. That may possibly be due to him trying to mislead LE into thinking that the killer was gay.

LE thought EAR/ONS was a non-secretor, which meant that his blood type couldn't be determined from his semen.

There was no DNA evidence from the Queen Ann attack, of course; and Offerman and Manning had been murdered too quickly for EAR to commit rape. Hence no DNA. Supposedly that was true here too. But in 2011 tests were done, apparently on DNA samples, that indicated EAR was definitely to blame here as well. There was little surprise, but now there was legal proof. Thus Cheri Domingo, sadly, had also been raped.

Gotcha. They found a small sample of ONS' semen on an item 30+ years later. According to some people, that item was a bedspread. Speculation is that he masturbated at the scene. According to LE, he did not rape Cheri.

I think we might be missing a third dog tied to this case. At least, I don't think anyone mentioned it in this thread yet. That would be the dog that got away from its owner in Rancho Cordova, circa 1974 (perhaps someone could correct me if I have the date wrong), ran into a backyard up the street, then came back a few minutes later bleeding and grievously injured from what appeared to be stab wounds. The owner of the dog knocked on the door of a local resident who called the police and the dog was treated and survived. Some time later, the resident who assisted the dog owner by phoning the police found a single rose at their front door. There may have also been a thank-you note. I believe this has been investigated, the dog's owner tracked down and then cleared as a POI. I believe it was this same dog owner who left the rose and the thank-you note.

The reason this may or may not be related to our case is because of...

a) the location — Rancho Cordova, which was like the Ground Zero of the EAR attacks. I am pretty sure that our perp had not been tied to any assaults at this time, but it is quite likely that, if he lived the area, he would have been active as a prowler and peeping tom, watching women through windows, and perhaps even breaking into residences. I don't believe he came into the world fully formed, committing his first assault in 1976 without having already engaged for some time in deviant sexual behaviour. My guess is that he had been stalking East Sacramento for some time before the first assault occurred.

b) the circumstances — we have all read how dogs had a tendency to act very bizarre in the presence of the EAR. For whatever reason, something caused this dog to break free from its owner and end up in a back yard, which is the exact place one might expect to find the proto-EAR doing his "thing." We also know that the EAR was almost always armed with a knife when he committed his attacks, and I have no reason to believe he would not have been armed during this "proto" phase, should he have come across a resident or dog who gave him trouble as he silently stalked the neighbourhoods. So, let's imagine for a moment that our proto EAR is stalking Rancho Cordova at this early date, getting his rocks off by watching women through their windows. He hasn't raped yet (that we know of) but he was almost certainly thinking about it. So let's imagine that one night he is out, creeping through backyards and drainage ditches as per usual, and ends up in a backyard, where he is suddenly confronted by a dog that seems to have appeared out of no where. He would surely have been alarmed by the dog's unexpected presence, and if it growled or barked at him, he would not have hesitated to "remove" the threat. I'm sure that he would have instantly recognized that, at the very least, the dog might give away his position when its owner came looking for it, or if someone stepped out to see what the commotion was. Stabbing the dog fits into a familiar pattern that our perp stuck to time after time: if he perceived anyone or anything as a threat to his security, he never hesitated to respond with brutal and sometimes lethal force. If the EAR is also the VR, we have even more documented examples of this.

Conclusions: a dog was mysteriously stabbed in the heart of EAR's hunting ground a year or so before his first known attack. It was stabbed in a backyard, where it wandered to for no apparent reason, returning to its owners with terrible injuries. Taking into consideration some of the points I outlined above, it seems that there is a good chance that this incident was related to the EAR. The dog was yet another innocent victim — like Rodney Miller, like (possibly) the Maggiores — who was minding its own business and crossed paths with a homicidal psychopath.

I think you're referring to the dog incident where the dog got off the leash and returned to the owner stabbed and bloodied. That happened in September of '79 in Goleta prior to the first attack there. The "rose" incident was definitely in Goleta but I don't doubt there are other dog incidents in Sacramento besides the one that Shelby mentions as occurring in 1974 in his book. Didn't he also kill the dog on Windsor Ct. in Goleta the night of the Offerman/Manning murders??

There was a dog stomped to death in a break-in of an apartment in the ARC area that is believe to be EAR connected. There were a number of apartment broken into at the same time and all were believed linked to EAR by LE, although I do not know what evidence they have of the linkage.

You have the right book however Shelby never saw the youth whom he later took to have been the EAR. There is a lot of typos in the book and there are now two editions, the original and the corrected. I bought it when it came out and it says the year was 1975 in my copy. What makes you think you might have the wrong book?

Because someone called me out because I said EAR/ONS beat a "few" dogs to death. So they inquired about the few statement. I stated there was the one time in Goleta. When the Offerman/Manning murders occurred I heard about a dog that was punched but unsure about if he or she died? But serial killers abuse animals often. So I am fairly certain that he beat more than one dog to death during his rampage.

The exact number is irrelevant but I guess the question was whether it was more than one? Anyway that is why I asked about the book. I think the poster was attempting to find the source early on from Shelby. Maybe the editions is where the confusion lies?

He was seen leaving a house through the back door after the occupants came home then punching or beating their dog. Then he was next door to the Offerman condo as they found twine in the bathroom and pry marks.

How was he able to do all of this and still have the German Shapard in tow?

I don't think he had the dog with him during the burglaries that night. I think he did those, left to regroup and get ready for the murders, then went back for the murders with the dog along.
