Hi,
I'm new to the board. I'm a true crime freak like I'm sure all of you are. I've been to a couple true crime forums before and sometimes people get upset if you post something that has already been discussed before. So I'm not trying to one-up anyone here. I don't follow this case religiously like some people do, but I have followed it a lot. I've been studying true crime for 15 years(my dad was a detective) and I consider myself an amateur at psychological profiling. I actually grew up wanting to be an FBI profiler, but it never materialized. I have studied it some.
From my readings and studying on the case, one potential theory I had is that the EAR/GSK comes from a wealthy family. I'll explain why I feel this is possible, and then give my amateur psychological profile I developed of him, after also referencing the already-existing one that is out there.
The professional psychological profile describes him as likely to be clean cut, well-dressed. He's intelligent, meticulous. Now that could just be his nature, but it's also very possible that was something ingrained in him since childhood. From a structured family upbringing that taught neatness and order, which makes the family also more likely to be well-off. However, the more glaring reasons I think that make him being from a wealthy family come from how he committed his crimes. He struck pretty rapidly. Several times a month. And we know he did extensive casing and studying of his victims. Some suggesting he may have even taken notes. To put that much time into that many victims tells me he probably has a lot of time on his hands. He created a map of an entire neighborhood, which would be a rather lengthy task to make it that accurately. The psychological profile of him states "had means of income, but didn't work in early morning hours." Honestly, with how much time he spent doing legwork and background work on his victims I'm not convinced he even worked at all. This was his "job." And if he did, I agree with the profile, it was no 9-5 job. It may have been part-time if he had a job at all. Which is why I think it's possible he came from a wealthy family. Maybe he inherited a nice sum of money. Maybe his family supplied him with an income that he used to live. Possibly even paid for his home or rent. Not necessarily living in the same household as them, and not necessarily living in the same city/state as his family when he was active. His face/likeness may not stand out in a crowd, but I also don't believe that he can live a normal life like the BTK/Gacy for example and have a wife and normal job and just go to work and blend in. There are reasons I feel this way that I can get into if you would like.
Knowing the EAR he was brazen(staying in the victims' homes for hours) but he was cautiously brazen. Sure, he almost got caught a few times, but that's bound to happen when everyone is on the lookout for you and you commit so many attacks in such a short time span. But he was so meticulous and went to great lengths so he would never be caught. That makes me really feel strongly that if he did work during his reign of terror, he didn't work in a job that would expose him to a great deal of human contact. He dedicated so much time to not getting caught, I think it's likely he wouldn't want any "annoyances" interfering with his top "hobby." I feel he was likely single during this time and also a loner. I feel like he would care more about being able to operate unimpeded than presenting a normal life for show.
Just some random theories. You can give me your thoughts, any are appreciated.
I'll end with my amateur psych profile, some in direct agreement with original one. I am in no way trying to portray myself as some expert, it's just something I do as a hobby.
-Extremely meticulous, organized. Possibly has OCD
-Naturally intelligent, high IQ, not necessarily highly educated. Possibly home schooled for a time
-Narcissistic
-Well-spoken
-Spoiled by his mother/parents from a young age. Contentious relationship with his mother, would take advantage of her, but also highly defensive of her if someone else were to insult her
-Mischievous from a young age
-Uncomfortable being the center of attention. If in big crowds would lurk in the background.
-Loner without many friends
-Short-tempered
-Didn't actively look to date.
-Possibly from a wealthy family. May have relied on them for money. If employed, a job without a consistent schedule or part-time and wasn't greatly relied upon for that job, leaving him with plenty of free time.
-Routine-oriented
-Unassuming both physically and vocally
The ones in direct agreement with the original profile I didn't include, because of redundancy. Some of them are already similar-ish anyway.
Glad to be part of the board. Your dedication to this case is admirable. A lot of intelligent people here.
