This is the first I've heard that Snelling was not for sure the VR. I thought it was him for sure.
I read that the killer of Snelling wore a mask. But then we don't know what VR really looked like, do we? So even if he didn't wear a mask, how can one say he was VR? And if he didn't wear a mask, then we have a good idea what VR looks like from Snelling's daughter, right?
I read that they THOUGHT Snelling's killer was VR because it was in the same area of some VR activity, even though other suspicious people had been seen previously. That and something about a gun that was supposedly matched to a previous VR burglary. How they would know that, I have no idea. I haven't read that the Snelling murder gun was retrieved, and I doubt the gun owner had a ballistic test on file. Perhaps he had old slugs that were matched to the ones in Snelling but I've not read anything like that. Otherwise it is a true mystery to me how they could definitively link VR to Snelling.
Sounds like guesswork of the time, like linking Cheri Jo Bates to Zodiac or the 1963 murders of Domingos and Edwards to Lake Berryessa, just because.
The EAR once or twice had a pot belly.
What I read, in any case, is that he didn't have so much as a "pot belly" as a little bit of flab around his waist, which was usually chalked up to baggy clothing and perhaps even equipment in his pockets or junk on a belt if he wore one.
Can't recall when a victim claimed he had anything approaching a beer belly. Maybe so. I just haven't read about it. He was almost always described as on the shorter side (5' 9") and lean, with a small penis, although there were some outliers on the his genitalia description, too.
I'm not a cop, but what you say is contrary to what the detective says in the interview on the early Cordova perp(s). He says blocking the front entrance and having an alternate escape route is rare.
I'd say such thinking is rare for the common idiot burglar, but for the prolific, experienced talented burglar it would become common sense at some point.
You tend to think of these kinds of things as you progress in your crime career.
That's my experience, anyway, or else you get caught, and getting caught is very bad indeed.
But what the hell do I know about any of that?
