EAR Style Murders in Colorado

I came across a Land Surveying Company called Foresight West Surveying Inc., that holds a license in several states - Colorado, California, Nevada, Utah, Oklahoma, Arizona & New Mexico. It got its Colorado license in 1984. The company has done a lot of business in all of those states.  [info redacted, by Drifter] I don't know how many land surveyors it currently employs in each of the different states it holds a license, in Colorado it currently employs a total of 11 licensed surveyors.  I saw it was recently recruiting a new Crew Chief Surveyor in California, which the position had just been filled.  I saw some of their work/maps and easement descriptions, etc. lodged in Colorado permit departments.  The documents does not name whoever the individual surveyors were  who completed each of the jobs, it only has the company's raised seal and signature of its president.

I then came across crimes in Colorado which I've never heard of before, that are incredibly similar to the EAR crimes.  I can't copy & paste any links because I have a weird virus on my computer.  So I handwrote what I found, which follows:

All in Colorado:

1/4/1984 - Haubens couple and their child were all bludgeoned to death. Looked like husband awoke and put up fight but still died while being bludgeoned.  Instead of just leaving, perp bludgeoned wife and daughters as well, then left.  No signs of robbery, no signs of forced entry.

1/10/1984 - [name redacted, by Drifter], flight attendant. When she  got home, she was raped and bludgeoned in her garage on [address redacted, by Drifter].  Miraculously, she survived.

1/16/84 - personal information of victims redacted, by Drifter]

What caught my interest was that after I googled the address of the surveying company and all the crime addresses, I saw the homes were ALL located only a few blocks away from Alameda Avenue, which in 1984, had new home construction booming and right in the two suburbs where all those crimes took place.  AND, one of the victims homes was situated  in a culdesac, alongside a stretch of greenery and right by a long canal and the Alameda Avenue Corridor, which looks exactly like the American River setting.   In fact, all the crimes were pretty much located along the same canal.  The last crime on 1/10/84 of the young, single, attractive flight attendant is located right near the land surveyor company's main office.  Google maps creates a sort of triangle with all the addresses, like the Goleta attacks.

Apparently, Colorado LE has been diligently working for 30 years to solve these mysterious crimes, which seemed to end just as suddenly as they began.   They entered the perp's DNA in the data base in 2010, which linked all the crimes, but no hit.  It's been 7 years since the crimes have been linked and Colorado is still working hard to find the perp. 

I wonder if the DNA has been compared to the CA EAR DNA?   There was no mention of anyone being tied, but that doesn't mean it wasn't done.  In SoCal, the guy took the bindings with him.   I just thought all this was spooky.

Has anyone heard of these crimes?

WHAT IF....

The EAR was in that vicinity during that short time span, which appears to have been less than two weeks, for a job interview with the land surveyor company?  What if while he was there, waiting around to be called back in for a second interview, or to find out if he was going to be hired, he spent his time prowling?  What if he got *ed off because he didn't get hired so he went on a crime spree before leaving Colorado?  He could have even worked for the company at its California branch.  So, what if he wasn't there for an interview, but actually for a meeting or something, with the owners?

A composite was made of that Colorado serial killer based on the DNA, but I haven't seen it.  I kind of recall someone on  this board posting a composite of a Colorado killer who that poster believed looked like one of the EAR composites.  I'm going to do a search.  But if anyone knows what I'm talking about, or if that poster is reading this, are these the crimes of that killer?

California has EAR/ONS/GSK's in the federal CODIS (DNA) databank. There have been no hits. California LE checks all of the time to see if they can get a hit.

If Colorado LE has the DNA for the offender who committed murders in their jurisdiction also in CODIS, it means that this murderer isn't the same.

1/16/84 - Bruce Bennett 27 Y.O, Deborah Bennett, 26 Y.O, and 2 little daughters were asleep when someone entered their home, but no signs of a break in or robbery, and they were all bludgeoned to death, at 16387 E. Center Drive, Aurora, CO

Patricia Smith, bludgeoned to death - 12610 W. Bayand Avenue, Lakewood, CO

No, I have not heard of those crimes. But it seems like ever since I watched 'Voyeur Motel' I'm reading stories about Colorado rapes and murders from the 1980's.

I don't think that is true. The only dna that is in CODIS is known offenders. ears dna is run through codis looking for a hit. CODIS doesnt have a unknown dna section. Since the Bennett murders are unknown as well, that dna profile is also run through codis looking for a hit. LE would actually have to compare them to see if they were linked. Codis wouldnt tell them.

If that is how Codis is setup (only identified perps are entered) then that'd be a huge flaw IMO. Wikipedia says there are different databases within CODIS and one of them is "the forensic index, which contains profiles collected from a crime scene". Should those e.g. be DNA samples collected from the EARONS crime scenes, even though the offender was never identified nor sentenced? See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Combined_DNA_Index_System

Can someone confirm that CODIS cannot match two unidentified DNA samples from two known crime scenes, i.e. it cannot match up crimes perpetrated by the same serial offender?

You need a national database all all crime dna is collected and stored

I was told a few yrs ago by Pool that is why they run ear dna through codis frequently. Maybe it has changed since then.

Yeah this is confusing.... Sorry Locard, you might be correct, but it isnt totally clear on how this works. So, are there any examples of two different cold cases that have been linked by dna through codis? You see all the time cold cases that have been solved by running the dna and getting a hit, but Im having trouble finding any cases that have been linked together through 2 different unsolved cases from codis.

If you do a search on this site, there quite a few threads and mentions of this case. I liked the one post from the above thread in which the poster claims that LE is searching for a black poi.

An intriguing point about this case is how closely the DNA generated sketch matches a Houston TX double murder sketch.

The Aurora Hammer Murders were the subject of an episode of "On the Case with Paula Zahn" several weeks ago. She interviewed the woman who miraculously survived the attack.

A terrifying case for sure. The molestation of the young child and both cases being in the national database keep me from thinking they are the same offender. However, when I first came across Hammer Man murders my stomach dropped and thought the same exact thing.
