I have a list of the five very important victims in my opinion to the East Area Rapist that I believe hold keys to identification of him. These survivors hold connections that I am attempting to uncover as to why they were held in a higher level than the other victims of EAR. I am shying away from the term favorites for obvious reasons but EAR had a bigger connection to these 5 than the others. They have a greater significance to him in my opinion of course but it is based on educated guessing and other confirmed evidence. I list them in numerical order not ranked by importance at this point but I will soon.Attack #1- This is a given she was the first known sexual assault and of course she received the recorded call of "Gonna kill you." She was the one he first crossed the line over from sexual burglar to sexual assaulter there had to be a big obsessive desire for her to cause the push in from fantasy to reality for EAR.
Attack #5- This particular survivor is known and a truly brave woman, in my opinion, she has been very vocal about him in a very public way and makes her important. She has also received very recent telephone calls that may be possible EAR and that pushes her over the top as important.
Attack #6- This survivor was being stalked and had been prowled in and around 1973 a full 3 years before she was sexually assaulted that makes her very important to EAR because of the amount of time alone he was spending preparing to attack her. There is the 1973 home burglary taken alone is huge but combined with a couple of car burglaries where the survivor's wallet was stolen and then add the earring theft you have am an important victim in EAR's world.
Attack #14- There are reasons for this one that might only be known to EAR himself because he called this survivor in 2001 and it's the "remember when we played" phone call. She was called by EAR 24 years after the sexual assault and that alone is something that places this survivor high on his list for whatever reason. I have much more detailed thoughts on this one and the others.
Attack #21- This is the man who was thought to have been the ranting man at one of the Del Dayo community meetings and then he and his wife were attacked 7 months later. This would be an important one to EAR because it shows the public he can strike out and get anyone he wants and leads to the public becoming even more fearful of him. He also called her and it was the call known as the "Merry Christmas it's me again" phone call. The phone call makes the victim important to him and it was the attack that demonstrated he was determined and could get to anyone.
Attack #24- This survivor had the shotgun standoff where EAR had unloaded the males shotgun and dared him to pick it up. It was also the first Hispanic female survivor. Then 5 years later during the 1981-1986 break during the ONS series the victim receives a phone call at her work a diner from EAR where he stated (edited to not be too graphic) "Remember when and he would make her do it again" phone call. He was thinking of her 5 years later and located her to call on the phone.
Attack #35- Added 3/21/18 Per Nerdfather-I would have to include victim(s) #35 and #37. With victim 35 in Davis, California, he knew her nickname. She said he couldn't have figured it out from anything inside of the residence.
All of those are just some of the reasons I believe they were more important to EAR I have more reasons but would like to hear from others what you think?
Victims from #2- They were not close to #1 & #3, he had to drive to them for sure, where in 1&3 he's walking to and from nude from waist down. Yet, he also knew that their parents would be gone at a church function. While it's possible that he knew this via stalking, I thin it's also likely he knew this family somehow, and their plans that weekend.
Victims in #3- He attacked the 2nd night of the man of the house working the night shift.Coincidence? possibly. Did he learn it from stalking? possibly, but again, there's a possibility he knew them and knew the husband would be gone.
Manuela Witthuhn- Over and over again, this guy guessed right, and knew when victims would be home alone, from the very beginning. Once would be an accident, twice a coincidence, three times a pattern. What would you call it for all the times EAR/ONS guessed right? I'd call it 'inside info' so,did he know the Witthuhns? Did he take the answering machine from her home to hear her voice over and over, or was his voice on that machine?
Janelle Cruz- Important because she was his last that we know of. He had gone 5 yrs without killing, and then chose her. Why? And once again, he guesses right, her parents are gone from the home. Did he somehow know that ahead of time? Also, Janelle was a stone's throw from Manuela and 5 yrs apart. He's connected to that area perhaps
