I feel like Goleta has been understudied on this site. A sort of missing link? It was a small community, especially back then . Why was he here? He moved down here for a reason. Goleta cottage hospital... construction... UCSB... could he have lived in nearby Santa Barbara? Population in Goleta was only 25,000 in 1980.
I live in Goleta, and just a 15 minute walk from where the murders took place. I recently read the McNamara book and am interested in searching around here for leads.
A forested gully is right between the two housing tracts where the murders occurred .
A friend and I walked the gully a few days ago. It is really creepy walking through it . We definitely felt the heebie jeebies. It would be a perfect place to run and not be seen and then could give one perfect access to pop up at different locations .
Did anyone see the list of crimes that someone compiled from Goleta in those months of 1979? I noticed one said a 12 year old girl was raped by a blonde white guy in/nearby this gully but was stopped by a passerby. He was not wearing a mask during the gully rape it seems , otherwise how would they know he was blonde? Does anyone know if these people were ever interviewed again?
This area has extremely low crime and low population and made up mostly of professionals and families. Those late 1979 crimes I believe some atleast must have been connected to EARONS. .
Lots of one story home tracts built in 1970s in the area.
Does anyone know if the Goleta police files have been looked over by McNamara and others ?.
I’ve lived here for 6 years just down the road and never knew the gully existed. I feel either he live/stayed right nearby or he drove in from the nearby freeway and scoped out all the territory and spent a good amount of time walking through the gully . It leads downhill and becomes large water drainage / floodwater runoff system into the ocean near UCSB. A perfect place to escape detection .
I hope this POS gets caught , sooner rather than later ,especially with all the people focused on this now with documentaries , books , tv shows, etc.
Btw I don’t think this guy was poor or homeless , I think he was evil intelligent and working a good job , probably stopped his rampage when he got married or had kids.. He felt comfortable in middle-upper class neighborhoods . Just my two cents .
