He could have kilked them, disposed of their bodies, driven to the turnabout and parked Keith's car there.  Then, walked on the Parkway until the steep hill was more level to the road, turned toward the water and walked back in the direction of the car, to the small sandy beach where he left his boat earlier, and sailed home.

What about the individual scent trails picked up by the dogs?

If this theory is what happened, the trail which led toward the bridge but then turned toward the water to the shore and backtracked to the small beach beneath the turnabout where the car was parked could have been the killer going to his boat and sailing home. 

The killer must have handled the bodies, causing Keith's body cells to get on the killer's clothing, which then shed from his clothing onto the groun, creating the trail the dogs followed.  Also, from driving Keith's car and sitting in the driver's seat, he would have picked up thousands of Keith's body cells and Keith's scent.

The second trail that lead all the way to the Indian Field Bridge then under the bridge and into the water could have been when the killer returned to get his jacket and drop off the clothes.   He would have been carrying the clothes and  Sandra's body cells would have been dropping onto the ground as he walked.  Sandra's body cells and scent would have been on his clothes from when handling her body. 

When the CPK returned to Keith's car at 7AM, he could have sailed to the Indian Field Bridge.  He could have then hid his boat under the bridge, walked all the way to the car, scattered the clothes and other personal items, grabbed his jacket and 2 beers, then walked back to the bridge using the exact same path he took to get to the car, got into his boat, and sailed away.

I respectfully disagree. I think that's awfully involved. But who knows....and investigators know more than we do, so there's no telling if any of our ideas are close to what happened.

My question on your idea is, if the killer was doing all of that walking (20 min= 1 mile, x2 = an extra 40 minutes) why would he have parked so far from where his boat was? Why not park at the nearest outlook? There are 2 closer to the Indian Field Creek bridge.

I don't know.  Maybe he made a mistake and thought the car was at the closer outlook. 

Then, when he got to the closer overlook and realized his mistake he decided to keep walking.

The most interesting part of this story (link below) is about the guy who notified LE that he uncovered  remains/skull.  The very first thing I'd have done would have been to take a close look at the guy who discovered the remains.

I think there could have been some minor similarities among them. I personally don't think they look much alike, aside from having darker hair, being of average weight, and being Caucasian. I think their noses are significantly different, as are the shapes of their mouths. All of the girls have chins that are normal in prominence, and Cassandra's and Annamaria's chins seem pointed while Annamaria's seems slightly squared and more prominent than the other girls'. Becky's looks proportionate all around. Becky has curly hair, Cassandra and Annamaria's hair is wavy, and Robin's looks straight. There are some differences otherwise; Robin was considerably younger than the others, and Becky and Cassandra were college students.

If the killer stalked the females for a while before killing them, how would he have known about them to stalk them? Through connection with Liberty Security? If so, then what about Becky? She was from New England, and had no connection to Liberty Security.

He could have seen Becky and Cathy in a bar or a restaurant they went to, maybe it was somewhere he was a regular. He could have tried to chat one or both of them up and been brushed off and not handling rejection well started to stalk them.

Thanks for all the thoughtful analysis.

Based on what I know about the Colonial Parkway Murders case, particularly Cathy and Becky's death, I think Fossilnerd is on the right track with the Ringfield Plantation picnic area being less than a mile from where Cathy's Honda was found at the Cheatham Annex Overlook. It is always a struggle to connect the four couples in the Colonial Parkway Murders, which may actually be the point when all is said and done.

There are definitely differences. However, IMHO THE 4 couples, as well as Brian and Laurie, were killed by the same FREAK.

I think the CPK is alot like Joseph Deangelo. Deangelo's crimes sometimes differed. There was so much controversy over whether the Visalia Ransacker, the East Area Rapist and the Original Night Stalker was the same man. In Visalia he tried to kidnap a teenaged girl from her home (Snelling). In Sac he took a teenager from her bedroom into the woods then returned her. In SoCal he killed COUPLES,and so LE never suspected the same perp killed Janelle and Manuela.

I don't think they looked so similar they could have passed for sisters.  I see that they had similar features - young, slender, petite,  dark hair, fair-colored skin, almond-shaped eyes, bright smiles.

Bundy said he looked for ladies that looked like his ex-fiance who dumped him.  Bundy's victims had similar features even though they didn't look exactly alike. They were all brunettes, slender, same height.  

Deangelo's female victims also had very similar features, which were similar to that of his ex-fiance who dumped him.  

Annamaria and Daniel MIGHT have been accosted at the rest stop.  The killer could have been hanging out there for hours, watching couples come and go.  He may have gone there more than once before that night. 

He could have seen couples who didn't fit his criteria- where the females were older than 25, blonde, very tall, stout, African-American, Asian, wearing glasses, etc...  Then, along came a post-teen, petite, dark-haired, fair-skinned, pretty girl with a bright smile ......

I agree that this freak could easily have had other, older MOs and 'lesser' crimes.  Guys like this generally don't just emerge as fully formed offenders from nowhere.

My worry is that the perp was a cop or authority type figure and won't have been caught or linked to old offences.  I can't see past Blackmon being involved in some way, but I was wrong about plenty in the EAR case.

I agree about Blackmon.  IMHO Ron Little was involved in some of these murders also.
