Certainly not conclusive, but we're not expecting to get a conclusive answer unless law enforcement confirms.  You are not wrong that the most compelling evidence is the timing of the posts, but it is that evidence viewed in context with some reasonable assumptions that make the speculation that CBK = JJD quite sound.  You need to start with the premise that JJD was likely reading these forums, which is a premise I agree with.  We have no reason to think he was not proficient with the Internet, other than his age, but most his age can generally figure out how to do what they want/need to do.  My main hesitation is if he was even aware of message boards, because I find that the world of online forums attract only a subset of the population.  But then the boards may have turned up in google searches, and if not, Michelle McNamara's book references them, so he could have found out that way. 





This guy is smarter than average and seemed to have a propensity for high tech type stuff.  Tinkering with boats and cars, and I believe he had some remote controlled planes or somesuch. He undoubtedly used a computer at work to order parts, etc. Mechanics use computers. He had a computer at home. There is approximately 0% doubt that he "messed around" with the computer. Of course he was interested in his steadily growing infamy and checked out our wonderful message board. 


If cbk was somebody else, this person would have at least dropped by this site to check things out. The only plausible explanation for cbk being somebody other than JJD is if the poster died suddenly, or was suddenly incapacitated completely with a stroke or somesuch and is in a coma.


(edit) BTW, I think the fact that he was a member of this board explains the smile on his face in the last hearing---which many have remarked on. He is aware that there is a sizable junk of humanity that is addicted to the case and were watching to catch a glimpse of him.

Okay, this is the crux of the biscuit right here. I DON'T start with that premise. Everything else that people are speculating about is predicated on that premise. If you DON'T start with it then obviously the rest of these possibilities become more remote.

I start with the premise that cbk was merely a poster named cbk who had nothing to do with JJD. And then from that premise, I look for any evidence that cbk could have been JJD, and that my original premise might be wrong. If there was more in the way of evidence in that direction, THEN I'd start looking at whether we can locate this cbk character. And if no one can locate him, THEN I can sorta kinda buy the possibility that cbk was JJD.

If you start off from this premise rather than the first, then the first premise begins to seem less likely. If you've ALREADY arrived at the conclusion that JJD used the internet to look for info about his crimes, then I can see that it must seem like there could be a connection. But we don't actually know any of this stuff and people are already acting like it's a slam dunk. Hell, even *I* don't know for sure if cbk wasn't JJD (he could be!), I'm just trying to see things the way its seems others are seeing them, and I'm just not seeing what they see. Probably because, like you pointed out, we are starting from different premises. I'm trying to find ANY evidence that cbk might have been JJD, while it seems like others have already arrived at that conclusion and are trying to make the evidence fit the conclusion.

I mean...if *I* had stopped posting here the same day JJD got arrested, then people going through MY old posting history could dredge up all kinds of suggestive things that could point to ME being JJD. If you view cbk's posts without the overlay of "CBK IS JJD!!" then those posts appear quite harmless and innocent. If you observe them with your mind already made up that cbk was JJD, then OF COURSE those posts are going to look like they're full of suggestive things.

That’s a perfect summary. There is no reason to think he was even aware of this forum. So someone needs to give me something there that makes me think he was. So far there’s nothing.

Then someone needs to explain why cbk makes any sense. The time stamp of last login means nothing to me because it perfectly lines up with someone who no longer cares about this forum because he was actually caught.

Possible, but if so he was the ONLY ONE OF US that behaved in this manner.

EAR was far from the only guy breaking into Sacramento homes while wearing ski masks back in the 1970s. CBK's comment about turning off the heat could have just meant he stole someone's stereo.

Also, these 'true crime' cases attract certain types. One type is a "sympathizer". Maybe they are fantasists and imagine themselves being the Great Rapist. Maybe they have imagined living a double life all these years, outsmarting the cops. Maybe they even pretend to be the Rapist online. And then guy get caught, and that kills the fantasy. Its no fun anymore, so they quit.

So I don't see JDD coming here and acting "naive". This forum has been around for a while and he wanted to post, he'd be trolling everyone.

It's my understanding that Dr. Doogie and some others researched this thoroughly and found out that this was the one poster that quit at the exact time JJD was apprehended---and never came back. Remember first "amalgata" was suspected, but then it turns out he was whale watching in the middle of the ocean, or something like that.

Of course, many posters just dropped off through the years, but the timing with cbk is significant.

Also, he retracted some of his posts, but not all. This is weird.

IIRC, cbk is still officially a member of this esteemed message board, so it's possible he or she will return at any time. But IMHO this will not happen because the poster is behind bars, where he will remain for quite some time.

If you are just doing a search of user CBK and reading the 20 or so posts that he didn't bother to delete, then it's true that none of his posts are very compelling. It is the posts that he did delete that raise eyebrows. To see those you need to scroll through the full threads and find posts where others have quoted his original posts.

They're only interesting if you approach them with the idea that cbk = JJD, at least as far as the ones I saw. Mainly general questions about the case, not dissimilar from questions asked by other posters here.

Regarding the deletion of posts, I was active for many years in a music forum. Quite a few posters there deleted old posts for a multitude of reasons, none particularly nefarious.

Regarding the deletion of posts, I was active for many years in a music forum. Quite a few posters there deleted old posts for a multitude of reasons, none particularly nefarious. 

I delete posts all the time after I feel as if I've said something stupid. Heck, I might even delete this post...

But, I see nothing wrong with people speculating and debating if it was him. I have a feeling a lot of people haven't read this whole thread or were not around to watch it progress from the beginning. There was a whole big list and process of elimination that was went through of posters that went missing around that particular time. They have either checked in or been flat out debunked by a mod. CBK is the last one remaining on that list.

Whether CBK is JJD or not, I do think its more likely than not that JJD was perfectly aware of this board.

What is it, specifically, that stands out as suspicious to you in that thread? That cbk said that EARONS was "in custody?" It's a strange thing to say, but I have read trolls who have posted far more sinister things, and I've read long-time posters on this board making all kinds of odd statements. I have no idea why he would say that, but that's still not evidence that cbk was JJD.

Again, if *I* had stopped posting after JJD's arrest, people could go back through *my* posting history and find all kinds of sinister-sounding things that, if viewed with the lens of suspicion and paranoia, one could possible interpret as the words of a serial killer. but that's only if one has already arrived at the conclusion that *I* was EAR. IF you read cbk's posts WITHOUT that lens on, WITHOUT the idea that cbk was JJD, then his posts just appear rather uninteresting, just a little strange once in a great while.

And again, we seem to be faced with a contradiction that needs to be resolved:

Thought 1: If JJD was on a message board, posing as an anonymous commenter, then he is bound to deliberately reveal some teasing information about himself just because he's a creep.

Thought 2: If JJD was on a message board, posing as an anonymous commenter, then he is bound to deliberately give out false info to throw off internet investigators.

The synthesis of the two thoughts seems to be this:

cbk HAS to be JJD, because look at the things he revealed. But of JJD was posing as cbk, then of course he'd give out false info to cover up his tracks.

Am I the only one who sees a contradiction there?
