Where is the clear line drawn in facts separating Zodiac from earons?
Youre accusing people of being crackpots in this thread? Back it up with some solid ground it's not purely ridiculous nonsense.
There have been posts in this thread that are fact based and articulated exceptionally to examine similarities and differences.
It would be a bit of an exaggeration to say you're proving my point, but you certainly aren't furthering your own case here. Beyond the reactionary, emotional, and sharply defensive tone, your response also demonstrates a marked lack of reading comprehension. Nowhere did I say the people in this thread were crackpots. I did say that the Zodiac case has attracted a lot of them over the years, and it absolutely has.
My concern is the sensationalization of this case. That's exactly what happened with Bundy, Zodiac, and several others. Cases like that become excruciating to research because you have to dig through mountains of baseless conjecture, editorializing, and outright myths just to find anything resembling the truth.
My concern doesn't lie in the fact that some people wanted to explore the similarities and dissimilarities between EARONS and Zodiac. As a community, we absolutely should be able to do that. However, we should also be able to examine these cases more analytically. We should able to think critically. We should be able to differentiate between superficial similarities, which are often shared by a significant percentage of offenders, and those genuinely unique characteristics that help us tie a single offender (or rarely, group) to a series of crimes.
My concern is that these things are not being done by a sizable minority here. I'm also concerned that sizable minority will grow and, as they do, will become increasingly defensive, combative, and resistant to reason. Your response only serves to indicate that I might be right about those concerns.
