His family and background are going to be discussed, there is no getting around that. As long as we're not going after them directly, or encouraging others to do so, I don't personally see an issue with this information being posted. There have been several posts about his wife and daughters, and you'll find a lot more empathy for them on here than you will in other corners of the internet.
Part of discussing this case is getting a sense of where he lived, worked and what his life circumstances were before, during and after the crimes. Familial connections are going to come up.
Someone mentioned on this website the name of a legally innocent man as a Person of Interest in EAR/GSK some months ago. That man lives in the Mid-West. This case and website have attracted a fair share of crazies and trolls. One crazy/troll latched on to the innocent man's name. He threatened the man, devoted social media platforms to him and his family, harassed the man's family, and even harassed his minor grandchildren's school. The family received death threats.
The innocent POI gave law enforcement his DNA sample. California law enforcement cleared the man of being EAR/GSK as there was no DNA match. The crazy troll wasn't satisfied with the DNA clearance letter written by California law enforcement, and instead demanded that they be fired.
The harassent continued. The crazy troll even accused another family member of being The Visalia Ransacker. And more social media was devoted to harassing their family.
And this horrible nightmare that this family was put through was started by a member who who made a claim against this legally innocent man and posted his info. That fell into the wrong hands and it was quite dangerous.
There is nothing wrong with exercising good judgment with regard to how we post information. Some specifics are not necessary. We can develop codes for the relatives, create a family tree with coded information for each relative, and use it as a codex or Rosetta Stone for the site, so we're all on the same page when referring to specific family members of JJD's family tree.
