First of all, congratulations to all those who built this forum - it is a great achievement! I am a relative newcomer to the EAR-ONS case and have been reading about it on the web and in Sudden Terror so please forgive me if my post is naive or has already been dealt with years ago.
My questions stem from the observation that the victim statements in Sudden Terror seem to portray an offender who was already a veteran rapist, right from the start of the Sacramento crimes. By this I mean he did not have the bungling, unsure attitude of a beginner but rather seemed to be confident and efficient, knowing exactly what to do and say in order to maximise compliance from his victims and minimise chances of losing control. Assuming this skill is something that has to be learned by experience rather than from a book or just by sitting in an armchair daydreaming, he must have done multiple rapes somewhere else before he started his series of crimes in Sacramento.
I understand there are good reasons to believe that EAR-ONS started out as the Visalia Ransacker, who was a prolific burglar but did not carry out any rapes and so was presumably not experienced in controlling victims. That idea fits with the events of 9/11/75 when Professor Snelling was murdered in Visalia during the bungled abduction of his daughter. From what I have read the time window between the end of the VR campaign (approx December 1975) and the start of the EAR campaign (approx June 1976) allows about 6 months for him to become an experienced as a rapist. My main question is where could he have done thus? Are there any reports from other towns in the region of a short but intense series of rapes that lasted from late 1975 to mid 1976? If so that would seem likely to be the location of the offender before he started the EAR campaign in Sacramento.
If there was no short but intense series of rapes that lasted from late 1975 to mid 1976 somewhere in California then could it be that VR is not the same person as EAR-ONS?
Sorry for waffling but it would be interesting to hear the opinions of wiser members!
